tube fanatic
If ever there was a case of audio David vs. Goliath, this is it! When I told "the guy down the road" about the LSP, he couldn't wait to hear it. We were both amazed at how well it held its own against the triode connected, 30 wpc, Rogue (with passive line attenuators for volume control) when driven by the same CD player. The LSP was able to create a clean playback level which was too loud for me to take for long, and a very large/deep sound stage; and that was at 13 feet from the CWs in a really large listening space! With Reference or Heritage series speakers in a more modest size room, and a closer listening distance, using flea-power amps in the 1/2 to 1 wpc range is absolutely feasible. Unless your listening levels demand very high power, it seems like a waste to pay for watts which you are not going to use (kind of like dropping a Hemi into an old Dodge Dart and only driving it down Main Street at 25 mph)!Maynard Edited January 3, 2016 by tube fanatic
tube fanatic
No, unfortunately he only had about 20 minutes to spare so we couldn't do both. But, he thinks he'll have an afternoon free in the next week or two for trying the Sweeties. Can't wait to read your impressions of the "Gem" as your first SEP experience!
