Help chosing Amplifier

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, am looking for some expert opinions. I have just purchased some RF7 II speakers and 15inch sub. I need some help on closing the 2 Chanel amp. I live in Australia. Can you guys check out all the specs from the links below and tell me what is best? Obviously I understand the output watts but not a lot else. First I selected the Cambridge 851A integrated because good output and xlr inputs from my cdj's and is my budget range. My local dealer was trying sell me the AMC xia150 integrated. A lot cheaper but he telling me is as good as the Cambridge but well under half the price, and won so many awards ect ect. Then my next option was the AMC pre/power combo that is still cheaper than the Cambridge integrated. All links below. Hope someone can spend the time and check them out, or maybe some better recommendations. Cheers.

Barnard,

Welcome to the forum.

I have heard really good things about the CA 851A but unfortunitely nothing about the AMC XIA150, though the specs look pretty good.

Maybe look into NAD and Yamaha integrated amp offerings also.

Those AMC must be getting old, I have a 2N100-3 which I got 2nd hand around 5 years ago. It is a solid performer and is very close in performance to that of my NAD 275BEE. I also had an AMC integrated which I forget the model but it was only 50wpc. This serving as a pre on my other amps was a very nice 2ch rig. I will 2nd the suggestion to look at NAD- maybe the 375BEE which is an integrated version of mine.

I have rf83s and would not want to go below 120 true watts, I would recommend the same for your 7s.

Whatever rig you pick make sure you can hook that sub up the way you want. If you are looking at that much power you can also experiment running them full range, I swap all the time on mine and just add in a bit of eq to give them a helping hand.
