gto6
I'd like to be able to switch back and forth from playing my disc player directly into my amps, or switching to my preamp to play the turntable, tape deck, tuner.......is there a switching device available over the counter that is as transparent as possible? Did anybody make one that works good? Or any other ideas would be much appreciated. Oh, and keep up the great chit-chat folks, IMO this BB has become an Encyclopedia for audio fun! Randy Bey
Well, this is possible only if your CD has a way to control it's output voltage (a volume adjustment, in this case). Otherwise when you switched to your CD player instead of your preamp, you would have the pleasure of listening to your CD at FULL VOLUME, perhaps not what you had in mind. You could, if you wanted, put a passive preamp of the Creek OBH-12 variety in the stereo, so that the passive fed the power amps, and one input went to the preamp out, and the other input went to the CD out. Then you would have a volume control and a switchable source (from whatever is coming out of the preamp to the CD output).
gto6
Randy, I have a volume control on my disc player as well a gain control on my amp. I just need some kind of switch to go back and forth.

WMcD
I agree that some of Radio Shack stuff is so cheap looking, it discourages me from buying it. On the other hand, it is so cheaply priced, usually, it might be worth experimenting with. Gil
