I have some 2.2's and 2.5's and really enjoy  them as well. If you pair them with a small subwoofer, and take the load off of them below 80Hz, they can really be quite dynamic in a smaller room. And a full KG 2.2/2.5 front end with some KG 1.5's as surrounds makes a really nice 5.1 setup.

Would you say the mesh grills affect the sound or not?

If you're hearing "boomy mid-bass" it's probably a placement/room issue. Move them around a bit and see what happens. You may be sitting in a room node and could be hearing a peak at a particular frequency.

I run mine without the grilles. But I haven't done enough listening with them on to say one way or the other. Though I doubt it would make much difference, if any.

Congrats on the new Klipsches! I don't think adding a little poly-fil would hurt but agree with what GPB is telling you. I'd look into buying a subwoofer to take some of the strain off them little guys and cross them over to cut out the lower frequencies. Also, I'd try moving them back a bit closer to the rear wall, maybe so the fronts of the speakers are flush with the TV? I'd play around a bit with placement as all that will cost you is a little time and may net you some great results.

A friend of mine was using three 2.2's for his front speakers and only had them a few inches from his back wall and they sounded great. He eventually picked up a pair of KG 5.2's for his front mains and moved the two 2.2's to the rear and now he has a pretty kick a$$ home theater that didn't break the bank.
