home theater set-up help !!

Hello All, I am new to the klipsch forum here and was wondering if I could get some help from some of the veterans here. I have a 7.1 surround sound set-up.  All Klipsch speakers except for the sub. ( Audio sorce sw 15 for now as temp till I can get a good 12-15 inch klipsch sub , budget wise probably a 12", any suggestions for that are definitely appreciated ) I have Tangent t-5000 for fronts, rc3 ii for center, r-26f's for surround sides and rs-35's for rear surrounds. All run by a Pioneer sc-07 a/v receiver 140watts x 7. Its sound pretty good actually except it seams like something is missing, Or maybe its actually just me. I was wondering if the fact that all my cabs are 97 dbs except for the tangents are 99 dbs and not from the reference line. Is there that much of a difference in the fact that its 2 different breeds of klipsch and the db difference in sensitivity rating ?? The Tangents are in excellent shape with all original drivers. I have done some swapping out and put the r-26f's in front , same center, rs-35's on the sides and rs-3's in the back ( 95dbs sensitivity ). but I have noticed now it seams a little empty in the back now. I find myself jacking up the rear settings to get an better sound from that area and it works but, still lacks a little there as well now. I found a set or 61 ii's for around $200 plus shipping. would that help improve on the back section even though they are only rated at 95dbs sensitivity? I have noticed that the r-26f's, rc ii and the rs-35's are all rated at 97 dbs and actually sound good and even together no matter where they are placed in the room. 15' x 13' by the way. Any input and suggestions are deeply appreciated.

Johnjon619,

Welcome to the forum.

Even though the R-26F's are more like the previous generation Synergy speakers than part of past or present Reference lines, I would keep them as fronts and get those RB-61II's and use them as rear surrounds.  Move RS-35's to side surrounds and move those Tangents to another room and use in a stereo rig.  Your room is not really that large so the R-26F's/RC-3 combo should be plenty for your front stage.  The RB-61II's have a lot more grunt and impact than you would think and should fill the rear just fine.

Thank you willand for the info and the welcoming. The 61 ii's are probably going to get away from me as they are bidding up out of my range quickly. So now I guess I'm open to suggestions as far as what to stick in the back or on the side with what I have and save money up for that. I know the rs-3's are just not quite going to do the job so they are getting sold. I have actually thought about parting with the Tangents to recoup money for another set of towers for the front or sides. Maybe another set of r-26f's or a set of the synergy or icon series towers. But I'm not sure how the 2 different series would work together or which one's to even try . I know I don't want to go lower then 100 watts per channel continuous with that big of an a/v receiver and would like to stay close to the sensitivity rating as the rest of my cabinets at 97 dbs  ( maybe as low as 95 dbs if they will work ). The sc-07 from pioneer  I'm running is a little older but, was a better step up for me as I was using a pioneer vsx 1015tx before that but I'm actually satisfied with the receiver for the most part. ( Trying to do the best I can with my budget. ) Any other suggestions as to what I could put in the mix??? my budget is around $250-300. I am hoping to get $250 out of the tangents to put with that if I can sell them. That's probably top dollar for those in my area on craigslist.

For HT the RS style speaker works fine.  No need for large floor standers.  I have used both for surround back not much difference except for the amount of bass.  I'm a fan of at least two subs in the HT.  One in the front and one in the back.  This will give a better balance to the bass and allow the use of smaller surronds.

All surround type speakers provide spatial /directional cues in a movie.  Sometimes, to large of a surround can lessen the impact of the cues.  This can be remedied by upping the XO.  The point I'm making is that large surround are not needed and the money can go into better wooferage coverage.

Currently, my surround backs are Klipsch in-wall with a 5 1/2 wooferage.  With rear subs, the SB speakers perform exceptionally larger than there size.  This an RF 7 system so, the small speakers are hanging in there with some big boy speakers and subs.

ok, Thank you for the info derrickdj1. I had never considered the use of 2 subs but that definitely makes sense. I only have 1 sub-out on my sc-07 , could that be pigtailed from the receiver and run to both subs ?? And yes I'm hoping to go smaller . The a/v room is big enough for small footprint towers but, I want to hold out for another set of rs-35's I'm thinking at this point . Both sets in the sides and back and another sub would be space saving. I could actually probably go with a nice 10" sub in the back and make due with the audiosource sub, for now anyway. I did pull the audiosource apart and help it out some. rubber feet, extra bracing,12 gauge wire, caulking and poly fill. Made a big difference and it actually can drown out the rest of the set-up if I open the settings up and give it a little extra dbs and still sound clean, but it needed feet, it wouldn't sit still .Setting it up with the mic for the receiver actually surprised me on how much room I had leftover to play with the settings. I figured the trim and db settings would be close to maxed out trying to run with the rest of the set-up. but, trims set at 2.5 and db set at 4.5 and crossover is set at 100, it blends really well. Am I correct in assuming I don't really want to go any lower then 100 watts per channel continuous on the rs speakers in the back ?? The sc-07 is 140 per channel. my goal is to not run it over half volume to help keep the heat down.

Derrickdj1 I did go with a Klipsch R-10SW and in taking your advice I am planning to get another one soon for behind the couch position , I was worried about the size a little at first but it does quite well for what it is as did the rb-61ii's as well in the back surround position. I wanted to wave a hand at you and thank you for the advice. Much appreciated.
