Want to upgrade, but want best bang for buck

I have a bit of money to spend but I want to do it smartly... I am looking at 3 upgrade options.

Option 1

============

Two new Klipsch RC7 speakers to be used as my rears

A new Klipsch RSW15 sub

A new Harman Kardon PA4000 amp...

Option 2

============

A new Harman Kardon AVR8000

A new Harman Kardon PA4000

Possibly enough for 1 RC7

Option 3

============

A new Harman Kardon AVR8000

A new Klipsch RSW-15 sub.

If you click on the link in my sig, you can see the room dimensions. The room at this time though does NOT have a riser floor. I decided to hold of on that. But the vaulted ceiling, and the room dimensions are accurate.

Thus, I am looking for opinions as to what others would do given my room and options.

After trying to figure out what all the various options for 6/7.1 I am not completely convienced that upgrading to two more speakers will be all that benificial if I have to use some kind of NEO:6 or DPL2. Those are for 2 channel analog to multi.

However on the flipside. When and if DTS-ES ever starts to pick up steam, those extra rears could be incrdibly sweet. The HK/520 does NOT have Dolby Digital-EX, what a pisser.

Anyone? Help?

Good Gawd. And to make matters worse, I just got a quote back from an authorized dealer for the AVR8000....

MSRP = $2,799.00

Quoted by dealer = $1,590.00

UGH, how can you pass up that deal.

mOOn,

Where have you been? I don't think upgrading to the 8000 is going to bring you that much pleasure forthe buck. I'd hold off.

mOOn,

Have to agree with NOZ. You already have respectable gear. Personally, I would use that money towards upgrades of the home theater and come back to the equipment later.

I know it's tempting to get more stuff with all the bells and whistles (we've all been there), but I would wait.

There should be a 12-step program for Home Theater upgradeholics ... I'd be one of the first to sign up.

Na, I wouldn't say I don't like denon. Just made Harman Kardon my first purchase and liked it, so I think I will stick with Harmon.

I thought about some Ultras, but I already have a klipsch RSW-12, I have had some people who have come over and listen to the theater tell me how impressed they were with it and highly suggest that I NOT sell it because it indeed was such a good sub. So, I decided to keep it and stick with Klipsch when getting yet another sub.

Noz and Ranger....

Reason I want to upgrade to the 8000 is because it has supports Dolby Digital EX, The 520 doesn't. There seems to be a lot more support of DD-EX over DTS-ES.

Plus it has MO POWWA for the ubber goodness. And it has THX Ultra technology.

m00n, think i mentioned this before to ya, but your 520

will already do the matrixing to rear surround for 5.1 anything, 6.1 anything & it does dts es 6.1 discrete. plus it has DPL II & Logic 7 for the 2 channel stuff.

if i were you, i'd stick w/ the 520 & get the rsw-15 & 1 or 2 rc-7 for rear surround. of course then you need a power amp for those & want to run butt shakers so get the 4000 or another quality multi-channel amp.

iow, that thx-ex is all marketing hype for the most part. Wink.gif
