PBklipsch
Can any one tell me if the newer marantz 9200 or denon receivers have lots of headroom/power to get the lascalas pounding on two channels for audio only. These amps state they have 120 watts a side.Any one out there using a hi end surround receiver that they can tell me about with the lascalas.I am using a vsx 9300 from 11 years back that has all the power I have not found in receivers today. This amp is equal to the 9500 and the 9700s which where all made around the same time.specs for these amps where 125 watts at .005% at 8 ohms, not like todays,And when you lift these babys up you can feel they put a good transformer in these units,Where has all the good amps gone ? Whats good ? This message has been edited by PB on 09-26-2002 at 01:02 PM
NOZ
Welcome, Any amp will make La Scala's go, they almost go by themselves. Denon or Harmon Kardon seem to be the usual picks, Just make sure the model supplies around 100 watts per channel. A good old tube amp will really make them shine. Roadhawg
I have used a Denon 3801 w/ my LaScalas and had plenty of power to spare. Didn't sound as good in plain stereo mode as my old Yamaha R-9 did but I have more than enough power. If you want to listen mainly in 2 channel you're probably going to want to look into tubes. boa12
as for a receiver w/ the sound & features I like, i'd look at 1st at b&k 305 or 307, & then denon 4802 or 5803. but that's me. marantz has a good sound & they say is upgradable, but it has poor Bass mgmt imho. would be fine if you use no sub woofer (like i do w/ my sr8000 in the stereo room). ------------------ My Home Systems Page

boa12
j, well now we're talkin seperate pre/pro. call me crazy but i think my b&k ref 30 sounds as good as the mc-1 for less. though lex does have some real nice added features. don't you just love these what sounds best to whom, which receiver should i buy threads? myself, i'd bring 'em & demo & hear for myself. ------------------ My Home Systems Page
