Amplifier needs

Hi,

I'm pretty new to home theater setup. Just bought a 5.1.2 klipsch setup with 2xRP-280FA, 2xRP-250S, 1xKlipsch RP-450C,  1xKlipsch R-115SW, 2x Klipsch RP-140SA.

It also came with a Yamaha RX-A3070BL. I intend on adding 2 more RP-250S sorround speakers making my system 7.1.2

My understanding is the Yamaha will power 9 channels, so it would be ok, but it sounds like the RP-280FA includes 2 channels itself, and effectively makes my system more of a 7.1.4 system

which the Yamaha can process but not power.

Question 1: Do I need an amp for extra channels.

Question 2: In general for this set of speakers will and amp be useful to remove some load off the receiver, or will the yamaha RX-A3070BL be able to handle these speakers well.

Thanks in Advance

Avi

That is some very nice gear!

Your Yamaha Receiver is top shelf but the power output drops drastically when more than 5 channels are being used.

If I was in your shoes, I would buy a 5 or 3 channel amp to drive the main speakers. That will take a ton of stress of the receiver and add all the headroom you’d ever need in a normal sized room.

Oh, a second 115 would also help;)

Awesome thanks for the info. I figured that was the case but have little experience with this so good to check.

Also I already have the extra 2xRP-250S and I ordered a second 115 too :). My room is around 3500 cubic feet so I thought that would help.

I have Yamaha RX-A870 and have 1 RP-450C , 2 RP-280FA and 2 RP-240S . Do I need any amplifier ? Also I read that RX-A870 does not allow 5.1.4 then how should I handle the RP-280FA as they have 2 channels ?

If those are the entirety of your speakers then you have a 5.1.2 configuration which your receiver will be able to power on its own.
