Wooden Grado Tone Arms

John,

Yep.. That counterweight is a pain in the posterior to adjust too. It just comes loose and moving it in fine increments is next to impossible! One other gremlin I remember is that tracking force spring is not linear. It only gives you the right tracking force when the stylus is right in the record grove. A tracking force gauge lifts the stylus up and compresses the spring making it read wrong. I wound up using the touchy counterweight to adjust the tracking force, which isn't a good idea either. Other than all that, I liked the arm. The lift grip was nice and fit my fat fingers very nicely.

I also remember riging an antiskate device for it from a strand of my hair, a paper clip and a steel nut for a weight. It worked too!

Go for it! I don't have a Grado, but my Thorens turntable has a beautiful walnut tonearm. While I had vinyl it was the best sounding tonearn I ever owned!

Lost my LP's in the divorce (she sold it all at garage sales!). So now I only look at that beautiful Thorens, but it's worth it because I don't have to look at HER!1.gif
