The Day The Music Died

Tomorrow (2-3-2019) is the 60th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper.

I've always been a huge Buddy Holly fan, I think he was one of the best American rockers ever. His music is still popular today.

There's a gathering of people every year on this day in Clear Lake Iowa, I'm sure many will be there.

Thanks for the reminder.  Buddy Holly and Richie Valens were genuine stars at the time of their extremely unfortunate an untimely deaths.  Nevertheless, can’t but wonder if they would be as famous, remembered, and revered, but for the plane crash.  Holly probably, Valens maybe.

My son and I had a conversation about the same concept as we drove by Selfridge ANGB the other day.  If Lt. Selfridge had not been the first powered flight fatality when Orville Wright and he crashed during a demonstration flight, he would not be remembered today.  I suspect, if given the choice, the young Lt. Selfridge would have chosen a long life in anonymity.
