Matt P
So I have a 7.1 setup currently with the rears and surrounds being towers and sitting across the back wall of the room. The listening area is in the center of the room. I have purchased some RS-35s to replace the surround towers and I want to install them on the wall 2ft behind the listening area. The problem is that I have a vaulted/angled ceiling so on the right side I will be able to install at 3ft above listening area, BUT on the left side I will need to install 5ft above listening area. Curious if anybody has dealt with this and if it will cause any issues having the height difference? Any receiver configuration mods that would make sense to equalize these? Current Setup: Denon s750h RF-7 for L/R RC-3 for center 4x Synergy F1 towers for surround and rear (2 being replaced with RS-35s)
Ceptorman
I would raise the 2nd surround to 5'......the same as the other one.
wuzzzer
Post pictures of how they're currently set up. 👍
Matt P
I can't post the other one any higher as that is basically at the ceiling on the shorter side. Have attached a photo of each side - speaker location being considered is at the yellow X. I haven't hung them yet because an alternate idea would be to just get stands, but they would then have to move temporarily into proper position due to the hallway behind the couch. Ceptorman
If the "X" mark is the same height, I think that's probably a good spot. I would rather have them level, even if that means they might be higher than ideal.

I can for sure put the shorter side as high to the ceiling as possible, and the one on the rafter as low as possible. But still is like 2-3ft difference. I grasp that ideally they would be same height, just not possible with the space - so my question is - will this be a major problem? Has anybody every run something like this successfully or is it going to sound off?
wuzzzer
Where are your current surrounds?

Currently they are all towers and they just sit next to the rears on the back wall (see picture). I do have cable length that I can pull them over to the couch occasionally, but again this blocks the hallways so I have only done it for 'special listening' situations. Note that I inherited the in-wall wiring which exists in the back of room, but does run through walls to the front of room.
Ceptorman
I would mount them there. Even though they're not in the most efficient spot, they still will sound good, you might be surprised.
Ceptorman
Very nice room btw, are those floors marble?
wuzzzer
Any way you can use stands for the side surrounds to the left and right of your sectional? That would be the best placement for them, then you can mount the rear surrounds on the back wall.
Matt P
Yes, 24in marble tiles throughout the house (just bought it a few months back). Look incredible, only downside is you need to be really careful if they get wet... I for sure could use stands, I just dont know how often I would move them back and forth to correct position. They could not exist permanently due to the wire running thru hallways. I can tell a big difference between having all four towers in back vs proper setup- which is why I was leaning towards mount. Sounding like if I cant mount them evenly it isnt worth it?...Might try playing them on a ladder and see how it sounds... Ceptorman
The ladder idea is a good one, will help a lot. If using stands isn't ideal either, mounting them uneven is worth doing.
