rmichael21
Hi everyone, I'm restoring a pair of La Scalas for outdoor/covered patio use. The squawker horns do not have a perfectly smooth surface. I was going to apply a thin layer of polyurethane resin, awl fair, sand them smooth and paint them with a epoxy paint but now I,m wondering if this will effect the sound, There will be no build up it's just to smooth them out and give them a custom color. Any thoughts?
Marvel
It should be fine. I have a pair of k-400 horns that had a ridge in it from a mold that was wearing out. I couldn't really hear a difference, but I filed it down quite a bit to smooth them and used some gray primer/filler and sanded to smooth some more. I'll do some more on them this summer or when the weather warms up some more.
rmichael21
Mine look like they were lightly pitted from the get go. I'm painting them metallic pearl white, I'll post before/after in about a week when I'm done
Marvel
Those should look good in that finish. I look forward to seeing how they turn out.
