Kain
Do JBL horn-loaded speakers have a similar sound to that of Klipsch? If not, in what ways are they different?
TBrennan
Kain---Can't generalize. JBL made a great many horn systems of various designs and some sound quite different than others. One thing however is consistent, the sound and build quality of JBL drivers is MUCH higher than that of those used by Klipsch. It's hard to imagine anyone preferring the sound of a T-35 to that of a JBL 076 or 077. But ole PWK was a very good cook and made delicious dishes with cheap cuts. Sometimes the cooks at JBL made poor dishes with good cuts. But I think the best JBL systems are better than Klipsch; smoother and more robust with a more lifelike midrange and more delicate highs. And if making DIY horns using JBL stuff is a very good way to go. www.chicagohornspeakerclub.org
