wrf1973
I've got a set of KG2 speakers and lately they're causing my receiver/amplifier to shut off. One of them periodically cuts out. The receiver works fine through the headphones, and the problem happens on more than one receiver, so I know it's a problem with the speaker - not the receiver. I've also ruled out the speaker wire because other speakers work fine through it. Someone suggested there might be a short in one of the speakers, creating an overload in the amp and causing it to shut off. Is there any way to test the speaker for this with a voltmeter? Is this an inexpensive fix?

Bruinsrme
How long has this been happening? I assume that you can unscrew and remove the speaker and inspect the wiring. also take a look at you crossover and inspect for wiring clippings, foreign objects and etc. On one of my JBLs I found several wires that were broken and shorting on the metal construction. A meter at Radio shack can be had for under $30 don't forget electrical tape.
muffinhead
It is possible that your receiver cannot handle a 4 ohm load. The KG2s are 4 ohm and your receiver may be working to hard and shutting down.
