SteelerFan
They are both in Mass. and the Outlaw 950 pre/pro looks almost exactly like the Sherbourn PT-7000.
DrPyro
If memory serves, the Outlaw pre/pro is made in China or somewhere in Asia. That company makes parts for several different companies, for example the outlaw & ATI amps are both made by the same company. So its very likely that they are both using the same suplier. Perhaps someone will chime in that knows for sure..... -Dave
danbry39
They're not the same company, but the Sherbourne pre-pro is a 950 clone, with apparently few modifications and a significantly heftier price tag. If I recall, the amps of Outlaw are made by the same manufacturer of ATI.
jdm56
If you've noticed, the Atlantic Technology P-2000 appears to also be a close relative of the Outlaw and Sherbourne units. What the heck is going on here? A lot of "out-sourcing, it would seem.

erdric
This is all from memory so bear with me... There was a number of big threads about this topic over on www.hometheaterforum.com a while back. Outlaw worked with a far east manufacturer to design the 950. The manufacturer had the right to use the platform of the 950 to OEM for other companies. The Atlantic Technology and Sherbourn units are clones of the 950. Supposedly there was an upgrade in the quality of the internal components for each. This is partially to blame for the large price increase. The other is due to B+M distribution for those companies vs. the online sales of Outlaw. BTW, one of the founders of Outlaw is Peter Tribeman. He's the president of Atlantic Technology. It was discovered, sourced, and posted in one of those threads at HTF.
jdm56
...it'd be interesting to see the units opened up, side by side, to see if there really is much difference in construction to justify the large difference in price. Like you said, probably more to do with the on-line vs. b&m sales.
