Invidiosulus
I opened up my 1981 heresies awhile back to look at the crossover, drivers etc. Something I thought was kind of odd was that the back panel is only 1/2" thick and not 3/4 like the rest of the cabinet. When I am playing music at a decent volume(90dB or so) I can feel the back of the cabinet vibrating, even more than the motorboard. I have been thinking about putting new binding posts on for some time now and I thought I might kill two birds with one stone so to speak. I'm guessing I could cut some new backs out of 3/4" birch and put the new binding posts on those so I could keep the original back pieces totaly stock if I ever wanted to change back. What kind of binding posts would you people recommend and do you think a thicker back could improve the sound(tighten up the bass, more definition)?? Any comments would be surely appreciated. Peace, Josh
michael hurd
I don't think that a thicker back would make that much difference, but you could try making a thicker one and adding a brace top to bottom and side to side that will just fit into the opening. Btw, I would just use binding posts from radioshack on the original back - use the original holes that the screw terminals occupied, instead of cutting a hole for a terminal cup or plate. This will make it easier to return to stock condition. If you do make a new back, clamp the new one to the old one and drill through the existing holes - this will make it much easier to install the first time, without any extra holes in the glue blocks that the back screws into. dbflash
Josh, This is what I am going to use for both my Hersey's and Cornwalls.I have not ordered them yet so I cannot tell you how easy the install was. http://www.diycable.com/catalog/products/cardas_ccbp-l_binding.htm Danny
