Morris Code from Subwoofer

I bought a set of 4.1's last week (floor model - $149 from BestBuy smile.gif I set them up and they sound pretty good, a slight improvement from my previous set-up of Klipsch KG1 and a 200w/ch Carver plugged into a SB Live Value. All was fine for a few hours then I noticed the subwoofer was firing randomly. Boom boom..... boom..boom. It thumps away quit happilly regaurdless if I'm playing music or not.(during songs it sounds like there's a extra, spastic guy on the kick drum) It's bloody annoying. I've searched the archives numerous times yet never ran across a post reguarding this problem. I've tried to pin the cause of the problem down to no avail. All bass settings on my comp. are set to zero, system volume is low, win amp EQ is nutral, all connections are sound. The random bass noises are the same volume despite any adjustments I make to the CP Sub/Surround/Volume settings. Anouther thing I've noticed during the last week is the thumping apears tottally at random, but once it starts it keeps going on, and on... It sometimes disapears when I reboot, but not always... I'm at my wits end, so much so that the KG1's and Carver are looking like a better set-up. Please help.

Cheers for now;

I'm not familiar with the KG-1 speakers, but something that can handle a Carver amp should damn well be a whole hell of a lot better than the Klipsch Promedia speakers. Anyway, as for your problem, just a random suggestion, but have you checked all the wire connections to/from the sub?

Yes, checking the connections was one of the first things I did while touble shooting this problem. I even went so far as to power the speakers on a diffrent circuit in my apartment. It's thumping away as I type this... :o

Hmmm. Is there anything else used on the same circuit, like a sewing machine, refrigerator, or anything with a motor?

Does the system thump when it's hooked up to anything else, like a walkman?

My Brother's monitor in our basement has a nice flicker from the power outlet.. it gets worse when the vaccuum is used. I tried one of the ground isolator plugs and it never worked. He has to use one on his HTS system cause of some kind of interference with the cable TV or something

These are the settings that I use for my volumes:

81% across the board bass and treb are left at 50% and I have 100% on winamp with a flat EQ. for the control pod.. I have the sub usually set anywhere between min and the 10 o'clock mark.. and the main vol is set to wherever depending on how deaf I want to be. The static etc. ya may have to deal with if the soundcard is not that good.. The signal may not be all that clean.

Do the speakers work good through a PortableCD Player of your stereo If they work fine.. then it might be your soundcard.

Hope this helps.
