b-man1
my question is in regards to the +/- dB adjustments available on most receivers. i can go +/- 12dB for each speaker on my denon 2802. the question is: is there anything bad about tweaking this? i know the advantage is to even out speaker SPL's, but beyond that...does it introduce distortion or hiss by further amplifying the signal? just wondering because my RF-7's require my 2802 to be cranked up (-20 or higher) to get good levels out of it. if i just add a few dB via the above option it is obviously louder at a "lower" volume setting. hope this made sense! T2K
Yes, raising the settings will increase output. Get a Radio Shack sound level meter # 33-2050 and a test disc to set levels corectly. I recently bought a test disc from www.partsexpress.com for about $8 that works well. Easier to use than Avia. (The meter # may be incorrect, I bought mine 10 years ago.) garymd
It's just a balance adjustment for your room setup/speaker placement and/or sensitivity and does not add distortion. My sony DA5ES goes +/- 10dbs and I have my rears set to +10. No problem.
