tien
Hello All, Whenever I turn off the power of the receiver (Onkyo TX-DS787) my KSW-12 sub starts to hum. If I leave the receiver's power on standby, the humming stops immediately! I have tried to connect both power cords to the same outlet and to different outlets but the humming is still there unless the receiver is on standby mode. Anyone has any ideas? Thank you tien
Guest BobG
What happens if you disconnect the sub from the system and only leave the AC power connected? If there is no hum, then you have a weird ground loop problem. Start checking for too many grounds in your system and do a search of this site for "ground loop". tien
Yes the hum stops when I disconnect it from the receiver. But I really don't know how to check for "ground loop"! Please show me how. Thanks. tien
RickB
If you have a satellite dish or cable tv cable run through your system thats a good place to start. Unhook the cable before it goes into any equipment and see if that stops the hum.
PAR69
Another place to start is to unplug the interconnects from the back of your receiver one at a time and to listen for the one that stops hum. Also, if you have a turntable, make sure it is grounded to your receiver.
paul cbc
Another thought: If the subwoofer has a 3 prong plug, put on a "cheater" plug (3 prong -> 2 prong) adaptor and see if that gets rid of your hummm. Not ideal but might work! Good luck, paul
diceman
I cured my HUMMING problem by converting my three prong plug to a two prong plug. Apparently, the humming in my subwoofer was caused by a grounding problem. If you can't or won't pull the third prong from your plug, connect it to an extension or converter that changes it to two prongs. I used an extension and pulled off the third prong. Voila! Humming gone, instantly. And to think, I was going to sell it on EBAY to buy a new one!
