maxg
My system: Heresy 11 speakers Accuphase E211 Amplifier Marrantz CD6000 Mogami interconnects Synergistic silver speaker cables. Background: Over the years I have undergone innumerable upgrades and changes to my system. I have travelled through Surround sound (with 12 speakers at one point - 2 of them subs), through Aiwa, Sony, Yamaha amps. I have traversed DVD, staggered through monster cables and flirted with Denon DVD players. Finally I have sold my entire surround sound setup and, after much experimenting and several system and component auditions got to the system above. My Problem: I love my sound. I mean I ADORE it. This is sound that soothes the nerves, heightens the emotions, blinds you with intensity and relaxes better than Prozac. I spend spellbound hours in rapture each evening and rouse myself each morning to sound quality immeasureable to man. This is a bad thing? Yes, my search for a sound I want is over. My all consuming stereo lust is gone. I have no more left to buy, no more tweaks I WANT to try. Oh, there are many things I could do. Many ways to take that little step forward, maybe. Other formats to try (SACD, DVDa), but the will isnt there. I do not pine for this CD player, that amp, or those speakers. I do not dream of a different cabling solution, no longer play with accoustic fixes and 1/4 inch adjustments to speaker angles. It is perfect where it is. Now my wife tells me we need a new refridgerator. How can I get excited about that?? Where to now my wanton lust for sonic Nir Vanna? What brave new world awaits my satisfied ear? boa12
max, how could this happen? looks like you've gone full circle. perhaps a 2nd lap? maybe this forum would help. i think i've found to have 2 sound rooms is the ideal. 1 for simple stereo listening w/ no need for change. the other, well, the opposite of that ------------------ Klipsch KLF 30 (front), KLF C-7, Cornwall I (rear) Velodyne HGS-18 sub woofer Monsterbass 400 sub interconnects & Monster CX-2 biwire & Z-12 cable Marantz SR-8000 receiver Sony DVP-C650D cd/dvd player Sony Trinitron 27" stereo tv Toshiba hi-fi stereo vcr Technics dual cassette deck Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital cable box Boa's Listenin Lounge: Klipsch RF-3 (front), RC-3, cheap little Technics (rear) Monster MCX Biwires Sony STR-DE935 a/v receiver Kenwood KR-9600 AM/FM stereo receiver (vintage 1975) Russound AB-2 receiver switch to RF-3 Teac PD-D1200 5-disk cd changer Technics direct drive turntable Sega Genesis game player Sub: None yet rock on! HornEd
Have you checked with your audiologist? Do you listen while smoking funny stuff? Have you found a 13th step? Is St. Peter your new webmaster? Surely you MUST be able to visualize your old refrigerator on its side, horned, ported and sporting a pair of coppertoned woofers... smack in-between a pair of 50th Anniversary Khorns autographed in two-tone fluorescent spray paint by PWK! Oh, gosh, lost your stereo lust? I'm sorry... I forgot about the slope intercept theorem, etc... maybe you can talk about it with Bob Dole's amplifier specialist? Ah, yes, life is but a (sound) stage and we are merely (Klipsch) players. HornEd PS: If all else fails, assume the lotus position in your sonic sweet spot, crank up the volume and visualize whirled peas! decibel man
Refridgerator? Well you are going to have measure out the cubic foot requirements for your desired chilling position. Be sure there are no warm air drafts as those would raise the cold air resistance causing the compresser over time to work a little harder. Another important consideration when buying a premium food chiller, is what type ingredients are you actually going to be storing? If you prefer frozen beef, then it is important that the compressor either not run often or the air flow stay away from the food. This will help to prevent a fridgophile's worst nightmare, freezer burn! If you're into the prepared pre-boxed meals, these factors will not be as important. A nice power conditioner may also help to keep the compressor at lower temp, creating a better chill factor. Then there is that on going debate as to whether or not you should use the factory supplied power cable. Many things to consider. I think you see my point. Just divert you energy. HornEd
Wow, way cool decibel wringer! I need to get me a herd of them thar decision tree, sub zero, neural net enhancers and rock on to Rolltide... where vintage boxes rust in the sun unmolested... and I cam sit in rapt contemplation of my naval jelly. With such desire, Shakespeare never could have written: His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wide For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice, Turning again toward childish treble, pipes And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all, That ends this strange eventful history, Is second childishness and mere oblivion, Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything. Then again, rumor has it that Shakespeare predated PWK so he lacked the "sans ears" lead line. ~ HornEd One of these days they got to get that tongue into the smiley! maxg
Excellent suggestions allI have hunted on the net and there is a fridge with a serial port(?) Methinks it is internet ready. My food can browse on-line it seems, maybe pick up some recipe ideas - who knows. In the meantime a separate room for surround sound huh.....would SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) go for it? Well - its something to aim for I suppose.

Mighty Favog
Does that come with a toroidal (sp) power supply? How pure is the copper winding in the compressor motor?
