moondawg
My second pair of Heresy arrived and I'm using one as a center channel. You guys are right... it sounds FANTASTIC! Now I'd like to augment the bass with a subwoofer. Any suggestions for this po' boys budget HT? (TheEAR over in Powered Subwoofers suggested the Polk PSW404). Just wondered if you Heritage folks had any other suggestion. I could pick up an RW-10 for about $330, but that's about my maximum. The room is only 12'x14' and I'm not into rattling the windows. Just looking for something that will blend well with the Heresy for a bit more presence with HT and music. Any ieas? Thanks,
TheEAR
Ah ha The PolkAudio PSW404 beats the Klipsch RW10,in bass quality, built quality.Easy Sure it does not have the Klipsch badge, besides the badge the PSW404 goes to 30Hz with ease and never booms or drones like so many inexpensive subs. Its a slot vented design, the RW10 vents up front the PSW404 the rear. The PSW404 is a serious sub to consider, and you can find a good deal online. So I still keep my recomendation for the PSW404
Malcolm
Your Heresys will definitely benefit from the addition of a good sub. Don't sweat Klipsch branding. Until recently, Klipsch really hasn't had very good subs and most Heritage series owners use something other than a Klipsch sub. In your situation, I would go for the most bang for the buck. FWIW I have 5 Heresys and a sub. The sub is the Decware WO32. I built it from plans. It is a very nice match for the Heresys. Unfortunately if you were to build one, by the time you buy all the parts, including an appropriate amplifier, the cost will be well over your budget. moondawg
Thank you both for your suggestions. I've seen a couple of the Polk on ebay so I'll try my luck on one that's coming up and let you know when I have it set up. Thanks,
hurdy_gurdyman
If you're into DIY, here's a good concept. http://www.linkwitzlab.com/thor-intro.htm These are open baffle subs. These have bass that sounds close to the speed of horns and should integrate great with any horn speaker (they need separate amps). I have some simpler open baffle subs and they go great with my Heresys. OB subs excite less room modes then any other kind and have less "boom" problems. You need to hear OB bass to appreciate what I'm saying. Dave Actually, this is a better link to see how they are built. http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/urltrurl?url=http%3A%2F%2Fmitglied.lycos.de%2FMundU%2Faudio%2Fdipolsubwoofer.htm&lp=de_en&tt=url Also this one. http://www.diysubwoofers.org/dipole/
