You guys should try netflix.com. Then you don't have to buy them. All yo have to do is put it on your list when you feel like watching it and the next day it is in your mail box. I love it. I am glad to see other people that injoy this movie. A lot of my friends haven't even heard of it. I am going to have them over when it comes in the mail.

In the original Alien, its odd that the Director's Cut would be a minute shorter than the theatrical release. Seems strange that some footage was cut, so how much was added?

----------------

I think you could probably find the specifics somewhere as far as the length of the particular scenes that were shortened and lengthened with the amount of time that was added and deleted from the new 116 minute version. From what Ive read Ridley Scott decided to cut a few seconds off many scenes that he thought were just too long at the same time preserving the flow of the film. For instance, there was a scene that panned the entire length of the space ship that originally was nearly a minute long in order to emphasize the size of the cargo carrier and Scott cut it way down. Also a few scenes he thought dragged like the many vents Dallas had to crawl through, the hallways Ripley is running in and Ripley, Lambert and Parker looking for the Alien towards the end before trying to escape. This allowed Scott to add the now famous Dallas cocoon scene, a Lambert/Ripley confrontation scene, an extended ending to Bretts demise and a few other special effects that he thought would add to giving the film a more modern feel. I think it works.
