JTYoung
I don't know that it will cause any problems with the signal, but you do stand a chance of the connection coming loose and possibly causing a short in your receiver.
whadyasay
You should be fine as long as you wrap each connection with a good amount of electrical tape.
krispykoilz
I think you should solder the wire together if you need to make it longer. Both leads, left and right, should be the same length as well. I don't see how adding a foot if it's soldered is going to make a big difference in the amount of current being able to flow through it. You may be hard pressed to hear an audible difference but then again some people seem to have such acute hearing they can hear the most subtlest of changes. marksdad
do not solder, do not tape, there are several types of connectors to buy, my favorite are in line connectors, you can get what we call beanies, they are a small tube wraped in an insulator, strip both ends insert crimp and walla, no tape or solder, or a small device similar to bananna plugs, except it is open ended, and it has set screws on both ends, solder creates resistance, tape butt ugly.
