MichaelShaffer
What are some good amps to go with the RF-7? I don't have much to spend. I can give up features for sound quality. Are tube amps better? EDIT: Forgot to mention, I will only be using this for stereo, maybe a SVS sub in the future.
arthurs
I used to run B&K with my RF-7's and was very happy with the sound, I know some other members here also run B&K, also Parasound has gotten good reviews with RF-7's. happy listening. Bruinsrme
having the pioneer 49txi and the RF7s it was very harsh/bright/ear piercing. When I moved to the Parasound Halos A23 ahhhhhhhh is was like going from a wooden bench to a mice soft comfy matress. Hope that analogy helped. scott
nicholtl
Hahaha, how imaginative and visual. But I'm surprised, Scott, about how you think the RF-7's sounded harsh with your 49Txi? No doubt that sounds sweeter than when I had my RF-7's with my 45Tx, but I thought it sounded great. But then, with the Parasound Halo gear, it is like you said...on a hot water bottle on top of a down comforter on top of a heated king size water bed, with a hot girl next to me. Bruinsrme
With the 49txi I thought the highs were over exaggerated and the lows were lacking. With the halos it is just the opposite. The highs are not ear bleeding and the lows have more power and feeling Scott
TheEAR
Comparing japanese receiver amps to high quality separates from Parasound will make anyone with ears take the halo over any reveiver no matter how glorified it is. A large separate power amp drives with ease any speakers you decide to use,has gobs of headroom and slam a receiver amp can dream about. I finished using receivers when I purchased the Denon 5800 and compared to a Sunfire/ATI 2505n and 1505 setup. It was GAME OVER for the Denon. The efortless and grand sound from the separates has a clear advantages. MichaelShaffer
What's a good separate for under $500?
arthurs
under $500 is gonna be really tough unless you go used. they have some used b&k and parasounds on audiogon for that price range...
Basshole
Hey TheEAR how many of the sunfire amps have you heard? and what one do you think is the best ..sound wise.. ive been drooling over tne Sunfire 200 watts x 7 reciever..
whadyasay
If you're just using the RF-7's for stereo use, maybe look into getting one the Adcom 5000-series used. From what I've read, their MOSFETS give them a warmer and sweeter overall sound than the newer 7000-series multi-channel amps. 100-150 watts ought to be plenty to drive the RF-7's.
