MichaelShaffer
How hard would it be to rebuild one of these? They sound really different than my RB-35s. Lots of low, soft bass but not as clear highs. It would be cool if I could fix them since they've been broken for as long as I can remember. Can you buy parts on ebay or something? Malcolm
IMHO the best thing you could do with any of the old Empire speakers is to part them out, sell the parts to someone who wants them, and use the money to buy some decent speakers. That is what I did with a pair that came into my hands. Describe the parts properly and you should be able to get a decent price. You ought to be able to get about $75 just for a pair of marble tops in good condition. I sold the alnico midrange dome drivers for a nice price to some guy in Asia. FWIW I kept the marble tops for another project. If you want to fix them up, the parts show up on eBay from time to time, but not frequently. There are also some companies that have NOS parts. If the woofer, squaker and tweeter are in good conditon, all you need to do is replace the old dried out electrolytic capacitor(s) in the crossover with new film capacitors. MichaelShaffer
Yup that's it. Actually one of them is a 9000. 15" woofer, wow. No wonder the bass is so nice.
