Flame Speakers?

>>What do average electrostatics go for?<< Radio Shack used to sell a nice little speaker that had four elecrostatic tweeters and an 8" woofer in a walnut veneered plywood enclosure for $79.95 each.PWK measured the Ionovac at one time. While it could go higher in frequency than your dog could hear.It had tremendous amounts of intermodulation distortion. He speculated that this was why they sounded so different than regular speakers.

The Radio Shack electrostats sounded fine for what they were.It was the Ionovac(flame speaker)that sounded bad.Just because it is wierd and sounds different doesn't mean it is any good. Both electrostats and ionic wind speakers have been around almost forever. On eBay the 20 year old 'stat tweeters from those RS speakers sell for more than the whole speaker did new.
