ironwoods
Hi, I would like to ask experienced X-over people a question re; wiring a non-polar capacitor in series with a resister across a parallel circuit. Does it matter which comes 1st?. I was refered to an article in AudioExpress, that I cannot locate, that supposedly contradicts that it does not matter. If anyone knows of this article, please post the volume #. Any pros, cons and humor welcome.
IB Slammin
Woods, Try working on the X-overs before injesting the Lude's. Helps with things like wireing...........even Spelling........ Ooops! I just fell down the stairs........... Terry
D-MAN
No, in this case, it doesn't matter. The resistor can be on either side of a non-directional cap as the circuit alternates in polarity, the cap discharges only in one phase. The signal phase (+ or -) chosen for discharge is unimportant as they are equal. DM
Al Klappenberger
Woods, The part order doesn't matter. The R-C in sereis connected to the woofer is a "Zobel". It just makes the woofer look more like a resistor than an inductor. That keeps the lowpass filter happy. Al K.
ironwoods
Thanks guys, I'm going to keep it backwards from the schematic, which is how I wired it this past weekend. I had posted the same question on PE's BB, and was just confirming with others here. That elusive AE article is still poking at me though. Could there *possibly* be any sonic merit? I'm still going to try and hunt that article down. IB, the ludes are long gone, but apparently have a lingering effect on how I approach things. However I'm into slammin in all it's various forms. Luckily, I only have 2 stairs to negotiate.
