Drew in the desert
I recently moved and in the process dented one of the drivers on my RC3. I have listened extensively to it since and haven't noticed and distortion. Does anyone know what kind of effect a dented driver has on the sound? Dome
I was always led to believe that it made no effect on sound, as long as the dent is not so bad that it could tear under pressure. The dent itself however should not be a problem, save for cosmetically.
D-MAN
A dented speaker dome doesn't effect the sound too much. If it does it would be in the higher frequencies, and in the case of a woofer or mid-range driver, there isn't much of that available anyway. Take a pin and bend the tip to form a hook and pierce the dome and pull out the dent. The pinhole can be filled with a tiny dot of glue if desired, but most people do not bother. lynnm
If the dent is in the paper dust cover at the centre of your RC 3 then what is suggested by D-man is safe enough. If the dent is in the copper coloured area of the speaker do not attempt to pull the dent out as the ceramettalic material is brittle and you will tear the cone.
