  1. Christmas came early for me. I just got a Mitsubishi 65" 1080p DLP. Lovin' it.
  2. I have had my BFD incorporated in my system for several months now and just recently I've starting rethinking the way I went about calibrating it. I bought the BFD to tame the peaks in my room at the low frequencies. The first thing I did was figure out which frequencies needed to be dialed down. The way I did this was by playing 1/6 octave test tones from 16Hz to 160Hz. I ran the tones from the DVD player through my receiver in "Stereo" mode. Is this the correct way to do it? My initial thought was that playing the test tones in "Stereo" would help my control the frequencies around the crossover point (80Hz). But, now that I have put some more thought into it, would it make sense to run the test tones in another mode such as Pro Logic? I mean if I calibrated it in "stereo" mode, what happens when I am listening to somehting in Multichannel? Also, I think that Denon receivers run the mains as full range when in "Stereo" mode regardless of the large vs. small setting in the OSD menu. Any thought? For those of you that are using EQ's or a BFD for your sub, what playback mode did you use when playing the test tones?
  3. I currently drive an 04 Infinit G35. If money were no object I would choose a Range Rover supercharged for my daily driver.
  4. rplace, the picture above the TV is actually level, sort of an optical illusion with the vaulted ceiling. On top of the speakers are little statues that my fiance added. I can't say that I'm a big fan of them, but a little female influence is never a bad thing. Also, the pictures on the right sided wall were painted by myself and fiance. We saw how to do it on Trading Spaces of one of those TLC home remodeling shows.
  5. Here's an updated pictures of my front array. The room was bare before, now I've added some cosmetic touches.
  6. Anyone watch Monday Night Football last night and notice something strange about the audio? My reciever picked up the Dolby Digital signal and my on screen display showed "3/2/1" as if all 5 channels were active, but there was only sound coming through the mains. I switched to another channel HD channel and I was receiving the DD signal just fine, only ABC was had the problem. There must be some issue with ABC itself or my local provider. BTW, I have Cox digital cable in Phoenix. Anyone else notice this?
  7. I spoke with the dealer that shipped the speaker and they are just going to swap out the damaged one with a new one. I decided that I will just make the trip to the dealer and pick it up instead of using UPS. Unfortunately, the dealer had to order another RC-7 from Klipsch since he didn't have one in stock. Needless to say, I'm relieved that the dealer is being so helpful and not making me jump through hoops to get this resolved.
  8. This is looking through one of the ports at the magnet that snapped of the woofer.
  9. Took pictures of the damage. This is the smashed cabinet.
  10. It was shipped in the original manufacturer's box, so I would consider that adequate packaging. Reading on the UPS web site, they recommend the shipper file the claim with UPS. If that is the case, I would think that I could be left out of the whole claim process. The shipper is an authorized dealer that is about 45 minutes away from my house, so I could drive there and drop off the damaged speaker. Hopefully, they could supply me with a new speaker and do whatever they need to do with UPS and leave me out of it.
  11. Hi there, My fiance, being the cool chick that she is, bought me an RC-7 for my birthday. It is from an authorized dealer, but was shipped to my house. Anyway, after delivery I noticed the box was a bit beat up, but didn't look too bad. I opened the box, took out the speaker, and I heard something inside the cabinet rolling around. I looked through one of the ports on the back and saw taht the magnet structure from one of the woofers was completely broken off. Also, one of the cabinet corners was smashed. I called UPS to file a claim and they are going to pick it up on Monday. I don't really know the claim process, but I'm sure it won't be resolved anytime soon. My question is, should I contact the shipper to see if they can do anything about it? Perhaps it was damaged during shipping from the manufacturer. I've been waiting to get the RC-7 to replace my RC-3 for a long time now. I guess I'll be waiting even longer.
  12. Thanks for the reminder. I've been there several times and I'm leaving for Vegas tomorrow for my bachelor party.
  13. "BOSE!? For the love of all that is holy it is your RESPONSIBLILITY as a friend to MAKE SURE he doesnt waste his money like that. Send him here please!" I know, I know. When he told me, I said "Whatever you do, do not spend your money on that crap" He said, but it sounded good and it's only going in the bedroom.
  14. garymd, that is actually a really good idea. I'm gonna go that route.
  15. "Be happy for your friend! I mean, he could have come home with some cubes..." It's funny you should mention that. He is actually wanting to get some Blose for his bedroom.
  16. "Beer to go". I like the sound of that.
  17. He kind of did do the opposite. He didn't compare anything the 7's.
  18. "You think he's gonna buy a Ferrari and not LEARN to drive a stick?" Yes, that is exactly what he is going to do. Smart A**.
  19. FRZN, I'm not jealous of the Pioneer Elite part. I don't really care for their gear, but I am jealous of the RF-7s.
  20. Olorian, you're right about the free beer part and of course I don't mind helping him out and playing with his system. My problem is its like someone going out an buying a Ferrari and not knowing how to drive stick. What's the point?
  21. Should I be pissed? Heres the story: I good friend of mine has always been impressed by my setup and has been wanting to get some gear of his own when he had the money. Well, he finally has the money and he asked me what he should get within his budget (keep in mind this is his first home theater rig). I told him that if I was him, I would get the Ref 7 setup with a SVS PC+2039. We also talked about the electronics, but Ill leave that part out. I stressed the most important thing he can do is go to a few retailers and listen to multiple speakers run by different amplification and then make a decision. He never grasped this point and insisted that whatever I said would be good, he would get. So, sure enough he goes to one Ultimate Electronics and listens to their Reference 7 setup run by a Pioneer Elite VSX-59TXi and the source was a Pioneer Elite DV-4Ai. Having listened to this setup and only this setup, he decides to purchase the whole rig. He purchased some high end gear with a receiver retailing for $4500, a $1200 DVD player, and you know what the Klipsch cost. The thing that really pisses me off is that he has no idea about any of this stuff. While you and I spend hours researching and listening and building our systems piece-by-piece, he just bought what I said I would buy. Now he has more high end gear than I do, and he will not be able to appreciate it like we would. The worst part is, Ill have to go over to his house and hook everything up and give him a complete schooling on the different surround modes and show him how to use his equipment. I mean, this guy would have trouble hooking up a VCR to a TV, let alone a complex surround system. So, my questions is, should I be pissed about this or happy for him?
  22. "...with the speakers selected as (large). " Correct me if I am wrong, but if you have the speakers set to "Large", there is no crossover taking place in the receiver. Only the LFE is going to the sub.
  23. Hey Arman, Congrats on the RSW-15, it's a great sub. In regard to the placement of the sub, you definately don't want it placed up against the wall. The RSW series subs have passive radiators on the back side that need room to breathe. I would say it should be at least 6" from the wall. Also, corner placement is usually a good start, but all rooms are different and this may not be your best location. Many people here will tell you to place the sub in your main listening position, then play a bass test tone and crawl along the perimeter of the room with an SPL meter. The location that measures the highest SPL is a good place for the sub. In regard to the crossover on the sub, you should be disabling or bypassing the crossover in the sub. If there isn't a switch on the back to bypass, simply turn the crossover dial all the way up and let your reciever or pre/pro handle this duty. THX recommends an 80Hz crossover, but depending on your main speakers you may want to raise or lower this.
  24. The whole extended warranty thing pisses me off. BB sales reps push so hard to sell it, and many people end up purchasing it. Whenever I'm pushed to purchases the extended warranty, I tell the guy that if I purchased the extended warranty everytime it was offered to me, I'd have spent enough money to replace any piece of equipment if it went bad. I have never purchased one of these extended warranties and I figure I have saved at least a couple thousand dollars.
