wheelman
Anyone anticipating the arrival of this series on hbo? Have any of you seen previews of it? Since we were all talking about westerns and all. I think it looks pretty cool. Kind of hardcore back in the day. I guess this is based on a true town of the wild west. And their was some major killing and misfits around. All the people looking for a quick buck and outlaws lived their. NO laws
toddvj
Hell, yeah. Looks Awesome!!! Next week, Sopranos, followed by the Series Premiere of Deadwood. It's going to be a good Sunday Night.
RickB
Yeah, Deadwood looks like a really good show. HBO owns Sunday nights on TV.
wheelman
That's what i was thinking. What about the previews when the guy gets up and says ( now that is how you f&*(((ing clean a blood stain).
dougdrake
Deadwood is a great little town out in the Black Hills of SD. Full of little casinos now, since the JC Penney moved out from main street. I have near-relatives living there. Kevin Costner was close to building a big resort in the vicinity after he finished "Dances With Wolves," but that fell through (along with his marriage, I guess). Was there on a 4th of July some years back, and as the bars closed down, the cowboys mounted up (their horses were hitched outside) and rode off into the night, shooting them thar six guns in the air. Thought I was in a time-warp.
wheelman
Dougdrake it sounds like a pretty good time. Something about the freedom you feel in that kind of setting.

toddvj
So, what did you think. I liked it, but thought it was a bit hard to follow at times. I am going to record the west coast feed so I can watch it again and see if I can pick up some of the stuff I missed. I've never seen a Western where they used the F-Word so much. wheelman
I dug it it left me for more. It looks like the next episode will be better. I noticed it did swear alot and it was pretty bloody. And did it have that older photograph tint to it or something? It sort of gave me that vibe. Who was the sheriff i dug him? That was pretty cool at the end when they both shot that idiot. And Bill ask the sheriff who got him and the sheriff said my moneys on you. Man that bar owner is like the freakin anti christ or something. RickB
Excellent show, what a bunch of characters. My wife and I got quite a few chuckles out of some of their profanity laced comments, especially from Calamity Jane. You gotta love HBO. dougdrake
More "real" Deadwood lore - it IS the locale where Wild Bill Hickcock met his demise, shot in the back while playing cards. Think Calamity Jane met her maker here, too.
boomac
Wheelman, you are right about the bar owner. Lot's of potential here but I hope next week is a little better. I could stand a bit less foul language. That stuff is ok for the Suprano's but it seems a little over the top for this show. Maybe it just takes some getting used to. Deadwood is a great little town. I often stop there for the night while on my way to or traveling from Wyoming. The area is really quite nice and there is much to see. I think the place where "Wild Bill" was shot is on one of the back streets. It may have been the main drag in the old days, however. At least this is what some locals were telling me one night. There's a dandy old Hotel in town that I think was owned by the local sheriff. One night I splurged and stayed in the Teddy Roosevelt Suite. It was very nice and not that expensive. Teddy spent a lot of time in that area and reportedly loved the place. Should be a good show, espically if somebody shoots that darn saloon owner. Maybe "The Lady". wheelman
It's definetly going to have to bring a little more to the table to keep me watching it, but i liked it. I just hope they don't get overly obsessed with to much gloom. I know it is one of those shows obviously but i doubt we will be seeing any open ranges. More grime filth and just plain evil. 'But i think the sheriff will be kind of the good guy to balance it out a little. By the way the sheriffs name is (MOntana) is this right i can't remember? boomac
Can't remember the sheriff's name. It will interesting to see if he buys a hotel. BTW, I just did a little research and the Hotel I referred to must be the Franklin. In the history sescription it makes no mention of being owned by the local sheriff so perhaps, the locals were misinformed. Anyway, it's a great old Hotel to spend time in. toddvj
The leader of the Lynch mob called him by name right at the beginning of the show.
