SteelerFan
Does anyone have any idea who the singer or group is that does that tune they use on the menu? There is only a short snippet of it and it's driving me nuts trying to figure out who does it.
Moderators Amy Posted May 14, 2004 Moderators Share Posted May 14, 2004 Hey Steelerfan, I found the soundtrack to the movie, but I'm not sure what the snippet is. Maybe one of these will ring a bell? "Missed Kiss" Performed by Andrew Gross & Phil Cordaro "Air" Performed by Penguin Cafe Orchestra "Steady State" Performed by Penguin Cafe Orchestra "Black Eyed Dog" Written and Performed by Nick Drake "I'll Be Seeing You" Performed by Kate Smith "Cello Song" Written and Performed by Nick Drake "Who's Sorry Now" Performed by Sandy Posey "Ride Ride" Performed by Gillian Welch
SteelerFan
Thanks for researching it Amy. I didn't check the soundtrack because I don't think the snippet is really part of it, you don't hear it during thr movie. The only time it plays is when the menu is on. It's a female voice. Thanks again and I'll research the tracks you found and maybe I'll run across it.
justin_tx_16
I am on the case!
justin_tx_16
Possibly the voice of Carla Kihlstedt who is in the band that created all additional music NOT listed on the soundtrack listing. By the way, she plays the... violin, trumpet violin, viola, zither, bass harmonica, accordion, melodica, voice, breath The song is likely written by Carla and there is a good chance it will be featured on her solo albumn in which she plays her violin and sings... at the same time. Looking to buy her cd now!
SteelerFan
Thanks Justin! The singer on the snippet I'm talking about is accompanied by electric and bass guitars along with some percussion so I hope it's her. If she had a CD out I could go to a site like Best Buy and listen to the samples and possibly find it that way.
skeptic
On my copy of the good girl at the menu, it plays the Cowboy Junkies, the song is "Sweet jane".
justin_tx_16
Carla is in SEVERAL bands. Likely the one, again, is the Tin Can Band which is the band that created all the extra music for this movie. So the two other obvious instruments are probably the two guys from the band
skeptic
Are you guys hearing the same band as me on that dvd? It's clearly the Cowboy Junkies song, the same one that was on the Natual Born Killers Soundtrack. I'm not sure who the singer youre talking about is justin, but she isn't in the cowboy junkies that I know of. Are these the lyrics?: Anyone who's ever had a heart Wouldn't turn around and break it And anyone who's ever played a part Wouldn't turn around and hate it Sweet Jane, sweet Jane Sweet, sweet Jane You're waiting For Jimmy down in the alley Waiting there For him to come back home Waiting down on the corner And thinking of ways To get back home Sweet Jane, sweet Jane Sweet, sweet Jane Anyone who's ever had a dream Anyone who's ever played a part Anyone who's ever been lonely And anyone who's ever split apart Sweet Jane, sweet Jane Sweet, sweet Jane Heavenly widened roses Seem to whisper to me When you smile Heavenly widened roses Seem to whisper to me When you smile La la la la, la la la, Sweet Jane Sweet, sweet Jane
justin_tx_16
I have that song but it is a different singer is it not? It does not sound the same... Maybe my ears are crazy but it sounds like Carla's voice... let me listen again haha, bought the song off iTunes to do this LMAO Well they have five different version of the song on iTunes from the Cowboy Junkies... And you are right haha. Still, check out Carla haha.
SteelerFan
skeptic...you are my hero! Thanks a million. Those are the lyrics I remember hearing. Now all I have to do is track down which CD it's on and that will be easy. I want to also thank Justin and Amy for all your help.
skeptic
Sweet Jane is on the Natural Born killers soundtrack (its edited tho I believe) and it is on the 1988 album "The Trinity Session".
justin_tx_16
Sweet Jane is actually rated "explicit" on the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. At least on the one I bought.
skeptic
Yeah. Its not an explicit song but, on the Natural born KIllers sountrack I believe it is edited with Julliete Lewis talking through some of it...I'd have to go dig my copy up to know for sure. Maynard42
Sweet Jane, (a semi Lou Reed cover) is also on the live album 200 more miles by the Cowboy Junkies. It's a pretty good live recording. The singers name is Margo Timmins I believe.(possible misspelling). m
Moderators Amy Posted May 20, 2004 Moderators Share Posted May 20, 2004 I have the Trinity Sessions cd by the Cowboy Junkies with that song, and absolutely love the entire thing. It is VERY mellow...

Maynard42
The Trinity Session is Great! If I remember correctly it was recorded using a single stereo mic in a church in Canada. I really enjoy the song 'Misguided Angel' m
