Can I do this, safely?

In my little home office (ok unused bedroom) I am connecting my PC to an old receiver so I can play cd's etc, about the only place I have to put this old receiver is on top of an old speaker that will be driven by this old receiver. Questions is I am going to harm either, I'm kind of old now and partial to old things, so I wouldn't want to damage either one.

Thanks

I don't see why you would. Your connections coming out of the pc will probably dictate how you hook it up to the receiver. If you've got standard rca jacks coming out of the sound card at the back of the pc, I would just plug them into the AUX input on the reciever. You don't indicate if the receiver is tube or solid state. Tubes run hot, and some brands of both types are vented from the bottom. If that is the case I would put a piece of wood betweeen the speaker and the receiver, or otherwise elevate it slightly. Oh yea, and run the plug from the reciever to the surge protector your computer is hopefully hooked up to.
