both dishnetwork and directv offer receivers w/digital outputs. there is a decent amount of dolby digital movies out there, stars is the most consistent provider of dd movie material, and everything else comes through as pcm stereo. avman.

RCA, Sony (A55D), and Hughes all make Direct TV receivers with digital optical connections. They do run a higher price, but if you are a first-time subscriber, there are some great deals on the internet (Check Yahoo Shopping for starters). If you are a current subscriber, you may have a hard time finding good sale price. Although DirectTV's signal is digital, Dolby 5.1 material is still limited.

Tenhet, check out Dish's new receivers,501 & 301.The 501 I'm told is a new DD receiver but haven't had time to check it out myself.Check out the DishPVR(personal video recorder)while you are at it.Good luck,

Keith

I've got the sony a55 and it's probably one of my favorite pieces. Has the digital out, not a great amount of digital movies or channels but I'll settle for some rather than nothing! The remote is GREAT, rf output. Alot of channel assingments available too. If your gonna get one check it out. Nothing like DD movies off the sattalite.
