milton10
I was just given an Eico ST-70 that is in pretty good condition. It plays very cleanly, but has a slight hum on the right channel. It is also missing one knob. I have started re-capping the unit and it sounds really nice! Does anyone know how this would compare to a Scott unit (299 and 222 series)? Parrot
Free is a heckuva price to beat. I have yet to be paid to accept an amp (although there is a certain topology . . . hold that thought http://users.rcn.com/fiddler.interport/ST70.HTM
scott0527
Heck the tubes in it could be worth, well, you didn't pay anything so who cares what they're worth. I've bought two Eico HF-85 preamps and the last couple of years and both of them had 4 very nice Telefunken 12AX7 in them. Their damn mono power amps like HF60 seem to be worth a fortune when you can find them. I'll bet that thing winds up sounding really nice after you check all the caps.
