JDrury5
I currently own a Promedia 4.1 system. I got it about 3 or 4 years ago. I was wondering if it was possible to hook two such systems up together to make an 8.2?
Jay481985
not real 8.2 but yes 8 satellites and two subwoofers. buy 1/8 miniplug splitters
craftsman
You might be able to do it IF your sound card has the ability to provide 8 channels of output. Unfortunately, I can't think of a sound card that does...
myktek
i use to use a y splitter on my sound card and run 2 sets of them... =)
Jay481985
there is no offical supported 8.1 there is supported 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 and 9.1. putting 8 speakers and a subwoofer does not mean it is 8.1. There needs to be dedicated decoder for each individual channel. You will have 8 speakers but they will be using channels that are meant for a different placement

JDrury5
Is this what you guys are talking about? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=40138&item=5744537459&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW thats a splitter i believe, but it kinda looks shabby - would this deteriorate the overall sound quality of the system you think? If you guys have the name of a good company that makes these things, i'd appreciate it! Thanks!
007
most sound cards now have 8 channels audigy revo catalina any other 7.1 card the problem is, you dont have a discrete LFE nor a center, this would not give you any better environment for movies or games. You best just getting a the ultra 5.1's
doudou
you can use 2 sats for the center, so you will have real 7.1 using 2 sub for the lfe and 2 sats for the center for example. or 2 sats for the front center and 2 for the rear center... with some Y splitter and a good sound card that does 6.1 or 7.1 you can do almost whatever you want
Evil Techie
i think there was an article in maximum PC magazine that did this edit: Feburary 2001 to be precise they setup 12.4 using y splitters which rendered the testers def for a while
