DBvader
no...i remember some peple tried this, it worked for some, but not for others...something about these speakers and there 60 watts range...so if you use a high wattage amp...they will cause problems for the speaker...and how are you gonna hook up the sub?? vader ------------------ BRING ON THE POWER! justin_tx_16
that sounds right. i would think it would really depend on your reciever and amp. ------------------ -justin I am an amateur, but if it is professional help you want contact Amy. TheEAR
Yes you CAN use ProMedia sats with a regular reciever/amp. You need bare wire to 1/8" jack cables. You can buy made(often cheap thin wire)or make it yourself,or even better let the audio shop make the wires for you(will cost ya!). Then just make sure you use some bass managment, cut off the sats at 80Hz or you will damage the mid-bass drivers fast with any serious volume. After you set the amps to "small" you can use the ProMedia sats as a poorman's version of Quintets. Just be sure to use a sub(not too big that can climb up to 100Hz or so to supply the punch). And dont get careless on the volume knob. TheEAR(s) Now theears
Moderators Amy Posted September 24, 2001 Moderators Share Posted September 24, 2001 This is not recommended. ------------------ Amy ProMedia Tech Support promediatech@klipsch.com
TheEAR
"This is not recommended" And THE REASON IS? I know where you are going with this ProMedia Tech, most will damage the drivers by pushing them beyond the designated task. I know how speakers work and the limitations, the ProMedia sats can serve as sats without the sub.The problems would be to cut the bass off and not overpower the sats. clandeggen
Instead of a amp, why not a preamp? Or you can remove the built in amp and hook up direct. Seems like alot of work and defeats the purpose of the Pro Medias.
jethro
im using mine for surround with a denon 1802 works fine ....juat had to change the wires to something bigger.
TheEAR
Yep a Denon 1802 is a good match, you dont need a Denon 5800 for the ProMedia sats...then again it would be Homer like. TheEAR(s) Now theears
Dan F
FYI, It is not recommended to use ProMedia sats with any other amplifier, because the amplifiers in the ProMedia systems have filters that prevent the speakers from getting damaging input levels, notably at low frequencies. The satellite designs take advantage of this extra protection by stretching the low frequency cutoff. If used with a different amplifier, especially at anything higher than moderate levels, it will likely overload the midbass unit, and could lead to an early failure. -djf ------------------ Klipsch ProMedia Customer Service # is 1-888-554-5665
TheEAR
Like is said the sats should be cut at 80Hz(bit too high)and not be blasted.Only low to moderate volumes would do. WHY some want to use these sats??? Why not buy an inexpensive pair of Quintets? DUH Life is not so complicated. pankaker67
Well this option makes sense for those who don't want to pay $161 for a replacement subwoofer/amp. I don't think I'll be buying Klipsch again, but I may try to salvage these speakers I already paid so much for with one of my receivers. I am waiting for the Logitech Z-560 to come out. TheEAR
Just dont try to extract high volumes out of these sats, with the ProMedias they are cut high (around 150Hz ?).Most recievers cut the lows at 80Hz!This is too low for the ProMedias sats to take any serious power. My mistake I said cut too high, its too low. TheEAR(s) Now theears
