It is probably too deep in math and circuits for some here. Even if so for you, take a look at Fig. 4(. It shows why, in theory, the use of a horn doubles the effective impedance of the driver. I.e. except for the horn Ret would not be there. The name of the article is a bit misleading in that most of the information here goes to the selection of the bass driver and the size of the throat (small end of the horn). There is little about the horn in front of it. There will be another article by Keele next weekend where he analyzes the effect of mouth size (big end of the horn).
