fastlane
My tv has a sub out and I would like to add bass to it. I have cheap access to a SW8II which does not have auto on. If I were running through a receiver, I would just use the switched ac outlet on back. My TV obviously does not have one of these. Is there any way to convert or adapt so this sub will turn on with the tv, or would I have to manually flip the switch. My family doesn't always want the full HT sound, but I can't stand to hear the tinny TV speakers with no bass.
gcoker
Yes "The Clapper" Just have your family be carefull when they clap for something on TV the sub will come on and off many times. No I really have not heard of anything for the SW subs.
fastlane
I actually had thought of the clapper. It's just so ridiculous it just might work!
T2K
This is one instance where getting the clap may be advantageous. Keith
gcoker
One thing to keep in mind if you find something that will auto turn on or if you get a new subwoofer with a auto-on feature is the signal strength from your TV. A lot of subs required a decent signal to auto turn on. Your TV as well as many may not provide the signal to turn them on. I know in my case the Sunfire sub turns on very quickly where as the Klipsch takes a stronger signal before it comes to life.
richinlr
Just leave it on. Set the level to something reasonable and your family will like it just fine. My RW-12 stays on all the time, even when nothing else is on (same for my power amp). This will not hurt it. My power amp, with the exception of moving periods has been on for about 15 years. Not turning it on or off also saves it from getting the turn on stress - notice how light bulbs always pop when you turn them on?
