scott0527
His new album, Shangri-La, is really good. Just in case anybody who cares hasn't heard it yet. I've always thought the first several Dire Straits albums were so good. Very well recorded too as far as rock albums go. Unfortunately that Money for Nothin record got so overplayed I kind of developed a dislike for them until a few years ago I started playing their earlier albums again. Anyway, great album, good singing, songwriting and of course guitar playing. Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Mr. Knoplfer
Foxman
Is it true that this album is a completely differant style or genre of music from Dire Straits? If so, how would you classify this one? Thanks for the info, I havent heard much buzz about this one.
scott0527
It's easily recongnizable as Mark Knopfler. The album is just easy going. It flows from one song to the next really well. A little folk, a little funk, a little rock. And of course, it is recorded really well, so put it on a audio system and the sound is wonderful. No long guitar soloing by knoplfer but you can hear the trademark throughout.
jacksonbart
scotto527 I agree its a very good album. While I am a Dire Strait fan, would agree not crazy about Money for nothing, Skate Away is much better. His voice has gotten rougher, but it still works and I like his understated guitar playing on his single stuff. I saw him at the Tower in Philly for his 'Sailing to Philadelphia' ablum tour, he was great. Like a lot of older players, he surrounds himself with very talented younger players. Would reccomend it as well. Ragpicker's Dream was a little weak though.
