Born2RockU
I found a quad set of NEW KT-66 Groove Tubes for $100. Would they be worth my time to try in my MC-30's? I know everyone says to search out the "old-school" tubes... ...but I thought for $100, why not try these KT-66's and see what they can do. Has anyone any experience w/ Groove Tubes ? sfogg
Not KT66s but I use Groove Tube EL34s in my Dynaco ST-70 and MKIV. Bought them years ago so I can't recall exactly which EL34 I have without checking. One of the things they do is also match tubes by distortion characteristics and grade that from 1 to 10. If you buy from them you can get whatever grade you want, not sure how that works from other sellers though. Shawn

The higher the grade of hardness, the lower the distortion. I tried to ask for 10's, but the guy says it would take a month to 6 weeks... ...so I settled for GRADE 7's. Anybody else w/ any Groove Tube experiences ?
NOSValves
Groove tubes is a marketing company much like Electro Harmonix there tubes are made by some other manufactuer. For the most part they are geared toward the guitar market nothing wrong with that mind you. They are found in many local guitar shops. I've never tried them but I still say give the Valve Arts a try. Craig
ben.
One thing nice about GT is that they indicate the source of the tube up front in the description. I'm thinking of grabbing a pair KT66 for my bass amp. Those old EH that came with it are getting pretty tired.
Born2RockU
ben.: What are EH 's ? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- EDIT: i just figured it out. " Electro Harmonix " I have never seen them called that on the forum. There is always a first for everything. Were ya using the 6L6 EH's or the KT-66's ? ben.
Craig, they were the 6L6. I didn't try them in the 30s, just my Ampeg bass amp.
