keeters
I have a Marantz THX certified reciever that supports Dolby Pro Logic. It does not decode Dolby Digital (or DTS) and has no digital inputs. I am looking for upgrade solutions. If I purchase a DVD/DVD-A/SACD player with onboard digital decoding and 6 channel outputs connect it to my recieved 6 channel audio inputs will I enter the world of Dolby Digital? The product i am considering is here: http://us.marantz.com/shop/_templates/Proddetail.asp?model=29&cat=17 Thanks in advance
Zen Traveler
I don't know much about Marantz products, but I thought for it to be THX certified it had to decode Dolby Digital 5.1. To answer your question I think if you buy A DVD player that does the decoding then you can pass that information through the 6 analog cables. I didn't see on the link you provided that it actually decodes Dolby Digital and DTS, but for that price surely it must. I have a Denon DVD-2910 which is considerably cheaper than the one you are looking at and a Denon DVD-3910 that is slightly more expensive and I am pleased with both. Smokem
How do you know it does not decode Dolby Digital?
keeters
It is the SR-96 that predates digital. It does not have any digital inputs nor does it say Digital anywhere on the reciever.
Aggie Klipsch
If it decodes in the dvd player then it will pass all 6 discrete channels of info. That is the 5 channels and 1 channel of LFE to the reciever. The THX cert. predates DD and DTS. It recommended dipole surrounds for its decorrelation process.
