TBrennan
Altec Carmels, home version of the 9844 studio monitor. Uses a pair of 414 12s and an 806 driver on the 811 horn, crossover 800hz. Very fine speakers. My "new" Heathkit AS-21s are the same speakers in a different style cabinet.
colterphoto1
that looks sooooo cool! Especially like the matching loboy credenza center. Wish I had the acreage to pull that off in my LR- great 50's retro style look. Best listening accomplished from the floor level, I guess? Tom, how would you rate these Altec's against Cornwalls? Size-wise, they seem similar and would be a fair comparo? Chris PS: You just gotta love the orange shag. TBrennan
Chris---The bot is a little sculpture a friend made, he calls it Mike. This fella makes scultures out of junk; discarded machines and such. Some is quite clever and funny. He has a house full of the stuff now but won't sell any. The Altecs are comparable to Cornwalls in output, dynamics, low distortion and bass extension. Tonally I think the Cornwalls have more pronounced highs and the Altecs a more lifelike midrange. Both are excellent speakers. Some pefer one, some the other. The fella that made "Mike" prefers Klipsch to Altec so we traded; my tractrix mod Cornwalls for his Altec 605As.
fini
Tom, Mike is cool! Not to change the thrust of the thread, but there's an artist in a nearby town who makes clever fun sculptures out of found objects. He's placed them in his neighbors' yards, so now the whole street is an art gallery! Here's a link to some pictures I am confident will tickle you!
