taffyd
Would appreciate some recommendations for a suitable tube amp for some Fortes (original). . . and, since this is a second system, I'd like to spend no more than about $500, new or used. crazytubepower
The amp isn't as important as the pre-amp, for sound, and the choice is subjective
leok
What kind of music, how loud, how large a listening space? In general, amps that are good with efficient speakers: "Digital," tube, class-A ss. Leo
chuckears
The most glorious my Fortes have ever sounded was when I ran them with a McCormack DNA1-Deluxe. Do a search for these amps, and check out audioreview.com. You can find used McCormack DNA amps for roughly half their original retail, and last time I checked, Steve McCormack was still performing his SMcAudio upgrades on these amps to bring them to impossible levels of sonic bliss. I agree that a good preamp is crucial, but it is more like the icing on the cake; for me, the amp always provides the biggest sonic change. BTW, I am still running a McCormack amp, but it isn't a Deluxe... I foolishly sold mine to go 5-channel (Rotel), and got rid of it after a year. jt1stcav
Look no further than this 60 WPC KT88-based PP power amp (can also be used as an integrated with a flick of a switch on the rear panel), all for $499 BIN on eBay...
