Tonal Question

Recommended Posts

Hello Posters:

When listening to your horns do you listen in the purity stage or do you add an equalizer or a BBE processor to the mix?

Being a broadcaster and studio man in the pre mix and sometimes in the post we use a variety of processors and limiters to bring out the best taste in sound.

With horns adding equalization will add hiss in various frequencies which tends to add hash to the playback signal.

Your thoughts on the subject?

Best,

Craig

you got THAT right BSA! Why on earth would anyone want this in their signal path for home or auto use? Same with Aphex Aural Exciter. Some of the junk used in recording studios is just crutches for folks with no talent. Adding to a sound REPRODUCTION system is just Heresy (pun very much intended)

I have use 2x10 eq on my Cornwall Mains and really like the built in parametric in today HT receivers. But I really rarely tweak the system for specific recordings or playback circumstances, unless fixing a really ugly recording.

I actually go a further step. I do not even use a preamp.

I have a Adcom straight line controller - sometimes called a passive preamp (basically some switches and a pad & can only be used on line level sources). I like to keep very little in the signal path.
