  1. Hello All: The brass horns I had made I sold to a fellow audiophile who is using them in his Klipschorns. The sound is stunning. He had to add felt to the mouthpieces to stop any harmonics. I had another brainstorm and am tweaking with ribbon tweeters. I have a posting on another portion of the Klipsch Forums. Thanks to having been a member of the Boston Audio Society, I have truly become a tweaker of all tweakers. LOL! Best, JJ
  2. Hello All: A friend of mine is building two wooden horns for me to house the ribbon tweeters in. Rosewood finish. I am running the ribbons with an outboard crossover network that audioresearch sold in the 1980-90s. To me, the sound is magical. I listen to a lot of Jazz and Theatre Pipe Organ. I can flip a toggle and listen with and w/o. W/O sounds smooth and natural. With, I am sensing overtones that are sweet, yet smooth and natural. They are padded to blend not set to stand out. Will keep you posted when the wooden horns arrive. Best, JJ
  3. Hello All Again: Miles was a delight to be with as was Erroll Garner. I didn't know France too well and Erroll took me to Paris and there were two outstanding Jazz Clubs on the Left Bank. As far as Stan Kenton I got him a gig at Dartmouth College and that opened all kind of doors. I interviewed him for the old WJAZ FM in Boston and when the cast was over he got my New Hampshire mailing address and about two weeks later UPS left four big wooden crates at the house. I opened them and he had sent all of his Creative World label LP.s. Over 110 albums. Stan invented the Mellophonium Horn which is one romantic sound. I have one that he gave me. I play trombone so it was rather easy to adapt to the Mellophonium. His orchestra in the 1950s recored Romantic Approach and one of the cuts is Moonlight In Vermont which is absolutely stunning and a very haunting sound. The horn is a cross between an English and French Horn. I had a friend who wanted to buy it for $10k and I said no way. I have every record that Errol recorded and that collection is valued at $55k. All My Best, JJ
  4. Hello All: When I posted the mesh horns with Ribbon Tweeters I had no idea what would follow. After all, isn't that what this forum is all about? Putting Klipsch lovers and owners together to exchange view points and ideas? I am using Ribbon Tweeters for the airy sound and overtones. There are overtones above 17,000hz. Being a musicmaker and a semi retired broadcast journalist I know a little about sound. Former member of the MIT Home Audio Group. I mean, wow, hold your horses. That group had members who owned loudspeakers that could fuel the space shuttle. LOL! All my audio test equipment confirms that the Ribbon Tweeters are the icing on the cake. Fellow musicmakers I play trombone with all agree you have added some really wonderful Super Tweeters to your Klipschorns. This can be debated till the cows come home for milking. After all, it is in the mind of the listener that counts. Right? Best, JJ
  5. Coytee: I have two failed marriages both to nurses so my luck had to change for the positive. LOL! Being married to a radio DJ is like being married to a tiger by the tail. Just look at Howard Stern. LOL! Best, JJ
  6. I am a semi-retired broadcast DJ/Sales/Journalist that owns two exceptional Klipsch Heresy IIs and also a beautiful pair of Rosewood Klipschorns. Along with the Klipsch I have twin 18" Velodyne upgraded subwoofers. I run all tube in my audio rig and my forte is jazz...big band and theatre pipe organ. I do voices as well: Art Prysock...Frank Sinatra...Miss Ella and others. When I was a Navy Journalist assigned to Armed Forces Radio I used to cover the annual Antibes Jazz Fest that was a blast. Met many of the best in Jazz. Including Miles Davis... Erroll Garner...Duke Ellington...Count Basie...Thad Jones and Mel Lewis and their Jazz Orchestra...(Central Park North is a real pleaser) and many, many more Jazz giants including Stan Kenton. In the classical vein or semi-popular arena I knew the late Dr. Virgil Fox and maestro Arthur Feidler of the Boston Pops and the popular theatre organist George Wright. Please share your broadcasting experience. I am all ears. As you know radio is the theatre of the mind. Best, JJ Jeffries
  7. Hello Again All: This posting doesn't apply to the new Heritage Line with the exception of my recently adding a pair of Fountek NeoCD2 OM 5" Super Tweeter Ribbons with a 95db rating to my Heresy IIs and a pair of 7" Super Tweeter Ribbons with a 102db rating to my Klipschorns. The Klipschorns are an interesting story. I was at the local Agway back in 2004 and a fellow there said to the owner do you know where i could unload two gigantic loudspeakers? I said I would and he gave me his address and I stopped by and not knowing what I was getting into saw two beautiful Rosewood Klipschorns. I went and borrowed a friends 250 Ford pickup and stopped at Lock Haven University and asked if any guys would like to make $20 a piece and with that went and carefully moved the Horns. Needless to say they were in 100% condition and the sound is incredible. I saw the guy recently at Agway and he thanked me again for taking those ugly (his words) loudspeakers off his hands. I replied, no problem my friend. Sometimes miracles do indeed happen. Best, JJ
  8. Picky: Cold Beer and Klipsch...what more could one ask for! LOL! Best, JJ
  9. Hello All: Has anyone purchased any of the updated Heritage Loudspeakers? If so, please share your thoughts on your purchase. Best, JJ
  10. Hello: That did the trick. My computer and I thank you! Best, JJ
  11. Hello All: I only check in about once a month. Recently, I checked in and must have pushed the wrong button as I am receiving topic replies in excess of 100 emails a day. Someone, please guide me through this so I can opt out of those annoying emails. Best, JJ
  12. Hello All: Have any of you ever blended horns with ribbon tweeters? I am planning on adding two ribbon tweeters as super tweeters. Your thoughts on the subject. Best, JJ
  13. Hello: Where did you find the BBE online for $160? Does that include free shipping? Best, Craig
  14. Hello Klipsch Posters: It seems no matter where someone advertises something for sale there is one rotten apple to spoil the sale. I won a bid on EBay for an audio item and the product arrived and didn't work. It never was resolved. I am sure some who read this post have been bitten by the rotten apple scenario. Would the Klipsch forum allow a new section for us members to post wants...for sale...trades...etc? Your thoughts are welcome. Best, Craig
  15. Hello All: I purchased a new Compaq computer and something told me to get the extended warranty. Glad I did for within a month of the Compaq warranty ending the motherboard died. I have some pieces of audio equipment that is well over 20 years of age and still performing like it did when I purchased it. Pride in craftmanship and quality for the most part is a thing of the past. A sad trend is overcoming our society and it is time to reverse it. Just scan EBay and the so called present day home theatre loudspeakers and what is being sold as new and quality is pure - well, you know my trend of thought. I used to buy new vehicles...that day has passed. Long live quality from yesterday and that includes Klipsch Heritage. Best, Craig
  16. I have a pair of Velodyne ULD 15/2 subs and the 16hz of the 32' Mighty Wurlitzer Diaphone pipes are felt in my neighbors China closet! LOL! I have them placed between the KHorns 2 feet out from the wall. Best, Craig
  17. Hello Posters: When listening to your horns do you listen in the purity stage or do you add an equalizer or a BBE processor to the mix? Being a broadcaster and studio man in the pre mix and sometimes in the post we use a variety of processors and limiters to bring out the best taste in sound. With horns adding equalization will add hiss in various frequencies which tends to add hash to the playback signal. Your thoughts on the subject? Best, Craig
  18. Hello Klipsch Posters: I use only tubes and the sound with the II's is dyn-o-mite. What would I gain if anything if I went with the I and a sub? I realize any difference wouldn't be substantial. I just would appreciate any and all comments. Have a great week! Best, Craig
  19. Kar: I am the original poster. I live in Lock Haven. I don't know if your Forte's are still available. If so, please email me at: swedish5702@aol.com Thank You, Craig
  20. The Brass squakers are finished and I had only one opportunity to try them and it was awesome. The squakers are in storage with the KHorns. The sound was extremely smooth and refined. Not harsh as some on this forum had suggested. I am being patient as health issues forced me to sell my new log home. I hope to be in a position to get going again by fall of this year or next year 2006. Thank You for asking. Best, Craig
  21. Hello Klipsch Posters: Sometime back I noted of my find of a pair of KHorns in Rosewood. I was given them by a person I overheard at a hardware store saying he had two over size loudspeakers he wanted removed from his home just purchased. So, I and three Lock Haven University lads moved them to my abode. They are in storage in a safe place as my listening studio for now just isn't right for them to bloom. I also have a pair of Heresy II's that I would like to trade for a pair of Forte I's and I will sweeten the deal with cash. So far no one is interested. So, being handy at woodworking I built bases for them that bring the high horn to just above my sweet spot. Findings: The II's soundstage has literally opened up and the sound is literally unbelieveably precise. What a difference! No matter what I play through them the sound is fantastic. I have two different tube pre and power arrangements. One is audioresearch and the other is Philly. The sound is like honey on a sweet roll. Simply stunning. I had literally thought my hearing was starting down the path of loosing it until I lifted those two PWK gems off of the floor and into the spotlight. Tubes and PWK loudspeakers are #1 in my way of thinking and listening. I have a Velodyne ULD 15/2 subwoofer for the 16hz pedal notes of the Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ and Aeolian-Skinner Pipe Organ. Vocal and Jazz clear and precise! So, hope everyone is having a Fun Weekend! I certainly am! Best, Craig
  22. Hello Klipsch owners I have a pair of Heresy IIs from the late 1980s to early 90s. What I would like to do if anyone would be interested, is to trade them for a pair of Forte's and if needed add some cash on my part to sweeten the deal. I live in Lock Haven, Pa. and would be willing to travel in a 100 mile circle for the deal. Lock Haven is 32 miles from Penn State for coverage reference. You can also email me at: swedish5702@aol.com The Heresy's are unfinished and in good condition. The sound with my Velodyne sub is fantastic. Reason to part with them...moving into a larger space and I know the Forte's would be the musical ticket. Best, Craig
  23. Hello Fellow and Lady Posters: This week has been one hectic one for me as the movers were here and I am battling with my new home finishers to have the abode finished on schedule as I close on this present home June 4th (may be rescheduled)and I was supposed to be moved in the new one by the 5th and leave for a week in Boston/Gloucester/Rockport, Mass. and Maine on the 6th and then return to my finished log home on the 14th. Now, 90% of my earthly possessions are in storage at the movers (I am billing the construction corp for the lateness in finishing the home)pending when I receive the keys and my staff signs off...attorney stuff. LOL! Now! On to the Brass creations. Before anyone asks, my attorney's are working out the details on the patent end and I won't show anything until I have the patent. My home was full of electronic equipment for much of the week (really fun with the movers mixed in...LOL)two loudspeaker engineers...my good friend who cast them and refined everything...plus two theatre pipe organ voicers. They sound like nothing I have ever heard. Incredible! Strictly my opinion and the professionals who left this morning. A friend from New York brought his KHorns and we A/B'd and the Brass sound is not subtle ... it is a warmer...cleaner and clearer sound and that was with SS. The tube sound is like having a Lobster and Filet Mignon feast all rolled into one. Plus a little Chinese for good measure. LOL! More later! That is IF I recover from the move...trip to Merry 'Ole New England and settling into the new log home. The bite...attack and precision is awesome! The sight of Brass KHorns goes w/o saying! (I'm In Heaven) Everything I have put through them is pure bliss! The battle horn for each Rosewood system will be ready for testing in October. More on that later! Need to work out the static pressure...with and w/o trems and the keyboard. The horns will be voiced exactly like a Robert Hope Jones 8' English Post Horn which honestly is what the Coast Guard adopted for their fog horns. Fog additional. LOL! Best, Craig PS: To the doubting posters...I knew I would have the last laugh! Only kidding. Once I have the patent I plan on a media blitz! Helps to be a radio broadcaster for nearly 40 years and know a few people in the business to help get the message out. -C- Broadcast Standard Equipment. Too numerous to mention!
  24. Hello Posters: Virgil was fabulous on pipes. So was George Wright. Speaking of pipes, I asked my theatre organ artist friend and is here the story on the Kearns instrument. The Kearns organ had two chambers, one on the first floor and the second on the second floor speaking straight down the staircase. Even though this sounds like it would not be successful, it worked very well. The instrument had a Brass trumpet and a Brass saxophone on the organ. As I noted last night it had been built by Wurlitzer for a Hollywood sound studio and had some alterations for this purpose. So there you have it. The instrument now sings in Columbus, Ohio. Best, Craig Broadcast standard equipment. Too numerous to mention!
