How I modded my Cornwalls

Recommended Posts

"Rebuilding the tweeters" really means replacing the diaphraghms.

After 28-odd years, the thin copper leads on the diaphragms in the tweeters became frail, and two of them broke, making one of the tweeters nonfunctional.

So I bought new diaphraghms from Bob Crites, followed his online directions, removed and disassembled the tweeters, soldered in new diaphraghms, put them back in the Cornwalls, and grinned in amazement at the new high frequencies coming out. Easy to do.

IB Slammin, do you have any more info on the side braces that you did? Thanks.

Ooops! Sorry, I did not brace the sides. I didn't feel that they were large enough to cause much deflection.

Did 3/4" ply on the back and 1-1/2" X 1-1/2" steel angle across the motor board.

Any pics on the back bracing? I was just wondering about specifics since I'm mod shopping for what to do to my Corns. You know how it is.

The woofer tear can be kept from spreading with a couple coats of clear fingernail polish.

Nice job on the mods and posts, but looks like a TON of rope caulk. I did my 400's recently with two layers (one longitudinal, one radially) and took about 3.5 boxes per.

Did you put small slab of caulk on the tweeter sides as well?

Very informative posts and good pix, thanks!

Michael
