oogins
When using the preout for the Fronts on the Denon 2801/2, does the A/B switch work with them? For example, will speakers using an amp on the preout work as A while speakers connected to the B speaker outputs work as B? ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II NEC MultiSync M700 17" (soon to be Sony G400 19") Razor Boomslang 2000 w/Everglide Giganta These speakers are for my computer, not a HT Receiver: Kenwood VR-409 (soon to be Denon AVR-2802) Speakers: Klipsch Quintets (5 sats. + center) Sub: Sony SA-W305 mini-sub (soon to be HSU Research VTF-2 or Paradigm PW-2200) This message has been edited by oogins on 09-07-2001 at 12:45 AM
T2K
No.The speaker outputs will no longer work. You are using the pre amplifier output remember? The amplifier speaker outs would then be used. Keith
oogins
Thanks for the quick reply. Now another question: Can you have speakers connected to both the Front preout and the A speaker outs, and just switch between them? ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II NEC MultiSync M700 17" (soon to be Sony G400 19") Razor Boomslang 2000 w/Everglide Giganta These speakers are for my computer, not a HT Receiver: Kenwood VR-409 (soon to be Denon AVR-2802) Speakers: Klipsch Quintets (5 sats. + center) Sub: Sony SA-W305 mini-sub (soon to be HSU Research VTF-2 or Paradigm PW-2200) This message has been edited by oogins on 09-07-2001 at 01:07 AM
dougdrake2
On my Denon 3300, I can have the pre-outs for the front hooked to an amp and the speaker outputs remain "hot." I can move the front speaker leads from amp to Denon, without disconnecting the interconnect from the pre-out of the Denon, and drive the speakers off the Denon. Haven't yet tried it, but I imagine that I could drive one set of front speakers off the Denon speaker output and another set of front speakers off the amp output. I would not recommend connecting the same set of speakers to both an amp and your Denon at the same time (if I read your second question directly). I think you will cause one or both of the amps to blow as they will, in effect, be directly connected to each other through the speaker. oogins
What I plan on doing is having my Quintets connected to the receiver and using them for movies and games. I will also have an amp connected to the Front preout, and using it to drive more powerful speakers (ie. KLF-30's or RF7's) for music. I don't plan on using both sets of speakers at the same time. Will I be able to switch between the two, or would I have to unplug the amp from the receiver everytime I decide to use the Quintets? ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II NEC MultiSync M700 17" (soon to be Sony G400 19") Razor Boomslang 2000 w/Everglide Giganta These speakers are for my computer, not a HT Receiver: Kenwood VR-409 (soon to be Denon AVR-2802) Speakers: Klipsch Quintets (5 sats. + center) Sub: Sony SA-W305 mini-sub (soon to be HSU Research VTF-2 or Paradigm PW-2200)
dougdrake2
Paul - The front pre-amp outputs are simply going to contain the content for the front 2 channels. I don't believe they are associated with speaker A or B, thus will not switch on or off when you select A or B. They will, however, switch off if you turn off the front speakers (for headphone listening, for example). To prevent your non-Quintet speakers from playing when you are playing the Quintets (hooked to the Denon), just don't turn on the outboard amp. However, I think the only way to not have the Quintets play when you want to listen to the non-Quintets would be to disconnect them from the Denon. Perhaps an easier way is to drive both the Quintets and the other speakers off the amp, and use a speaker selection switch to pick which ones you listen to. oogins
So let me get this straight. I have my Quintets connected to the Denon on A and nothing on B. Then could I switch between them and my non-Quintets by turning on the other amp, turning off A, and turning B on? ------------------ -Paul AMD T-Bird 900 Asus A7V Micron 256 MB PC-133 IBM 30 GB 7200 rpm ATA 100 Pioneer DVD-105 Slot-Load (16X/40X) 3Dfx Voodoo5 5500 AGP Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II NEC MultiSync M700 17" (soon to be Sony G400 19") Razor Boomslang 2000 w/Everglide Giganta These speakers are for my computer, not a HT Receiver: Kenwood VR-409 (soon to be Denon AVR-2802) Speakers: Klipsch Quintets (5 sats. + center) Sub: Sony SA-W305 mini-sub (soon to be HSU Research VTF-2 or Paradigm PW-2200) This message has been edited by oogins on 09-07-2001 at 08:14 PM
