Julie,

What's the story on how you went from bookshelf speakers to Heresies?

Well,

upon reflection, it isn't that funny really. I was done eating my Moo

Shu Chicken and opened up my fortune and it fell right into my plum

sauce! I didn't know if it was worth reading but because my fingers

were already messy I got it out. It read "SOMETHING GOOD WILL HAPPEN

SOON" Soon is right because immediately the phone rang but I didn't

answer because I didn't want to get plum sauce on it. My girlfriend

started to leave a message and was real excited so I picked up anyway

and she goes "Remember the $200 I owe you? I don't have it exactly in

cash but I have something that I know you'll love instead." She

couldn't bring them over because they were too heavy and that really

got me wondering!

So I hopped into my car and went to her

apartment and she "Come in" and I went in and she was sitting on these

two speakers right in front of the door. They had been her

ex-boyfriend's speakers who didn't live with her but he had owed her

money when they broke up he got her to agree to call it even with the

speakers for what he owed her. I think he had got them from his dad

anyways so it was free for him.

So I laughed at Beth and sat on

one speaker beside her and told her they weren't very comfortable

chairs. We looked them up on eBay under Klipsch (took awhile to get the

spelling right) found they were Heresies and worth about $400 but

plenty of marks so Beth goes let's make it even and that she had just

been paid off with them and it was perfect to pay me off with them. I

told her about the fortune cookie and we laughed. I'll tell the rest of

the story if you want tomorrow.

J.

I had Chicken Fried Rice and mine said, "1.gif You are the master of every situation. 1.gif "

Great story, thanks for sharing.

I had Heresies (type I, which are actually just plain old Heresies, because Klipsch didn't know at the time that there'd be the Heresy II eventually) for six years until I bought Klipschorns, the top of the line. Like others have told you, enjoy what you have for now.

Hello Julie and welcome to the forum - one of the few beneficial addictions known to mankind.

You are confused because the term driver gets thrown around loosely to describe a couple of things. Just like "speaker" can mean the cabinet and all of the "speakers" in it or one of the parts in the cabinet. The woofer in your Heresy is a driver. It is a single unit and if it breaks you need to replace the whole thing. (Unless you can get Bob to recone it for you but that is a story for another day) You also have 2 horns in there. The midrange, in Klipschland called a squawker, and a tweeter. Each of the horns has a driver on the back of it that can be removed. Technically, the magnet/diaphragm assembly comprises the "motor" or "driver". The remaining part is a shaped piece of metal or plastic that is narrow at the driver or throat end and flairs out in size to the mouth which is the part that is exposed on the front of the speaker. This is the horn. You can see the horn by taking the grills off. The grills are stuck on with Velcro strips. (I usually use a bent up paperclip to pull them off.) Quite often people refer to the driver/horn assembly as a driver. You can usually figure out which they mean by the context.

Hope that helps!

Just a quick point. Before Julie starts pulling off the front covers we ought to make sure she has the Heresy model 2 and not the original. On the model 2 the front is held on by velcro but I seem to remember the model one - the original was fixed in place.

Julie,

Sorry those speakers werent for you. Actually the speakers he got for her were the RF3's - so I knew it anyway.

He is single now though.....and looking!

The first time I heard Klipsch and knew it was a pair of Heresy speakers..

I loved them. Years pass and I hear Cornwalls... Oh my!

I have the Cornwalls i heard for the first time..

The Heresies I don't. They were my friends speakers.

Keep your Heresy speakers. Keep all Heritage.

You can spend more money, but you may not get better sound.

People spend huge money to sound as good as you do, Julie!

Woof!

Welcome Julie!!!

My first Klipsch speakers were Heresies also. Saw them in when in Saudia Arabia while stationed there in 1985 and bought them. Had them for 15 years before upgrading to KLF 20s and now La Scalas. Beware the upgrade bug he will suck all the money from your viens!!! Let us know what you have them hooked up to.
