vandec54
Hello again, I have a KSW-12 sub and a Yamaha RX-V520 receiver. For movies, what should my LFE level be set at? How many db's? -7 is what i have it set at now. Please advise.
toddvj
There is no way to answer that, because it depends on the room. -7 might be right for your room/seating position, but someone else with the exact same equipment might need to set it at +3. I don't think there is really any way to measure either, it's all what sounds best to you. Hopefully, you can change the levels "on the fly" so if you think there is too much/not enough, you can adjust it without having to stop your movie. DrWho
You want to set it to where the sub is the same volume as the mains. Your reciever probably has a test tone function in it somewhere and you can use that to set the various levels. If it doesn't, then go rent/purchase Finding Nemo or Shark Tale because they've got a THX optimizer built into the disc (might take a little hunting in the menus to find it). Ideally you'll want to use an SPL meter as your ears will have a tendency to be misleading unless you've really trained yourself to listen. vandec54
Sorry, my room is 17x12 with the only opening being a 8x4 door. It is carpeted and dry walled. My equipment is centered on the 17' wall with my listening position 12' away on the other 17' wall. Hope this helps.
ygmn
set it so when running the test tones it is equal in SPL with all the other speakers.... So all speakers when they play the test tone should be at the same SPL at the main listening position To do this...you need a test dvd (or use receiver setup) and a SPL meter... travisc
you can buy an spl meter at radio shack for $35 and rent nemo for five. spl meter should be pointing to ceiling, respnse set to slow with a c rating, this is the only way you will be able to sleep at night, if your yamaha has ypoa on the other hand run that and it will get you there. I dont think you do though, so buy the meter then youll know. Its well worth the $
