Allan Songer
You don't want this amp, BELIEVE ME! There is no bigger fan of McIntosh gear than I--but there are TWO vintage pieces you don't want to touch with a ten foot pole ane they are the MA230 integrated amp and the C24 preamp. The MA230 is pretty much an MC225 amp and a C24 preamp in one chassis. The amp section is GREAT, but the preamp is HORRIBLE--really, REALLY awful sounding. Steer clear. 3dzapper
Hmmmm.. Allan, It does say MA-230 and also says "(30 watts per channel tube-MAC Collectors Item)". Edit: See Allan's post below. I would love to have a chrome and black on display but the timeing isn't right. Rick
Allan Songer
The MA230 amp isn't really the same as the MC225--it doesnt sport those incredible "unity coupled" transformers. The preamp is solid state and is grainy, harsh, unfocused and just plain NASTY sounding--especially the phono section. It is a good LOOKING piece of gear, however! The going price for an MA230 is about $600 in MINT condition, by the way . . . .
